If you are willing to go the SD route a Dazzle DVC100 will work.

I don't want 1080p, just something that's watchable, decent quality. Is this the DVC 100? Doesn't actually say anywhere.

Again, sorry for my incompetence here, but I don't want to waste money. So I've got a TV with 1 HDMI slot and 1 red/yellow/white thing, along with a yellow slot that says 'dvd/video out' on it. What else would I need to get this working, if it's even possible?

I've just realised this probably isn't going to work. My 360-TV is a HD cable, not AV. From what I understand that would require a more expensive capture card which I can't afford. Unless I've got that wrong, this **** is confusing.

Well, instead of you letting you do itself yourself here's what I have:

console-to-TV-thingamajiggerbob: $15 GameStop brand ultra-universal connector(works with damn near every console)

capture card: Dazzle DVC 170(discontinued I believe)
    2x male-to-male couplers
    2x splitters

I only need two splitters and couplers because I use the S-video output of my ultra-universal cable for recording and the regular video plug(yellow) for my own personal viewing. This setup maximizes what kind of video quality I can get(480p) with the device and though it's a little bit awkward(seeing it would be easier than explaining how it's awkward).

I believe the quality is fine. Judge for yourself, here's a few random vids I put up on YouTube:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajhH4EwsB_A
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVHCyljrjGk
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok70M2JhKYA
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2jS6CapfrA
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-ngP3K9yNg

All the videos I have that are dated before August this year are of lower quality because I wasn't using the S-video output on my cable for some reason.

One downside is that even if you're NOT wanting HD-quality video with this setup is that the software that comes with this particular model of the Dazzle is absolutely incompatible with Windows 7 or anything older than XP. I'm not talking "minor performance issues" incompatible, I'm talking it plain doesn't function incompatible. Also, A/V and "HD A/V" cables are literally the same thing, they're just colored differently and set together so you can tell them apart without having to trace the entire lengths of the cables to figure out which one is plugged into what. The thing is though, HD video is split into three different signals so you couldn't play in HD and record in SD at the same time. It'd look pretty trippy if you recorded something where two of the primary colors were completely removed from the spectrum XD

EDIT: If you do end up getting something that's been discontinued like the Dazzle I have, you've got the option of buying separate software that's compatible for it. There *MAY* be some kind of freeware that could solve the dilemma, but compatibility isn't guaranteed and you're on your own for that.

If all of this crap about recording games seems stupidly complex, that's because it is.

That's exactly the quality I'm looking for. I could probably wing it easy enough and work out what crap I need along the way.

I've only got one concern now. If I were to use the DVC100, would I have to stop playing games in HD? If I would have to downgrade to SD then **** that, I can't play like that anymore :p

If you use an SD capture card but want to play in HD, you're going to have to buy some more cables and use the splitters and couplers IN REVERSE to turn three HD video signals into a single SD signal. It's going to double the amount of cables you need to do it which won't significantly increase the price of the entire equipment loadout(by $20-$30), but you also won't be able to use S-video, your recorded video quality will be lower, and you will have yourself a HUGE MESS of cables to deal with. I think the mess of cables I have to record is already messy enough, I couldn't imagine doubling the amount cables in order to play in HD while recording in SD...

EDIT: Hell, if you're really that interested just go for the crap Hudson stated. It's much simpler than doing crap like using cables to turn the three HD video signals into one SD. If the idea of getting the equipment and hooking it up is this troubling for you even with people holding your hand the whole way, I strongly doubt you'll have the patience to be bothered with editing and uploading footage to pretty much anywhere or tolerate compatibility issues with streaming video sites which rarely support capture cards. No, I didn't just insult you, I stated an observation based upon your own statements in this topic.

Honestly, the editing and uploading doesn't bother me at all. Haven't done much video editing, but I've enjoyed it when I did. This is just way more complicated than I'd anticipated and I have little to no knowledge of the hardware involved in this stuff. I'll give it a think, look at a few more options before I decide. The stuff Hudson has is way too expensive unfortunately, maybe when I'm earning more I'll look into that. Thanks a ton for all your help though.

It's probably best to ask here, I got my EasyCap a few weeks ago and when I plug it all in; I'm using splitters, on my laptop I just get the sound but no picture. I've double checked all the cables and switched the splitters but nothing's worked. :|

The official websites are pretty damn helpful

A software or driver issue is most likely if you didn't already fix it. Or better yet, I'll go the IT support route...

SIR, HAVE YOU CONSIDERED TURNING THE VOLUME AND/OR SPEAKERS ON RATHER THAN OFF?

...That's supposed to be a parody but it comes off as something of an insult instead. I'm posting it anyways

....I only get sound. I could get better advice from "Moss" as apposed to these capture card sites. :p

I guess I should say what I found incase anyone else gets it. It's because of having an old Xbox360. Something about the hardware not wanting to use the splitters. So upgrade if you want it.

I found 1 other person with the problem in a 3 year old thread so there's no way I'm getting help for it now. At least I'm getting the Kinect Bundle for Xmas.

Props to uber for separating the video and fan art forums!

Also, new short video of a hilarious melee kill (doubling as an HD capture test) has been posted in the Video forums! :p
