I'm actually pretty sure that I've seen airstrikes disappear too. It's definitely more common for them to stay around after death, but there have been numerous occasions when I've seen one simply disappear after the support has died.

It happen to me just yesterday. I went to grapple a Support and he stuck me with his beacon he died by someone else during the grapple and the beacon just faded away. "Oh my god you just saved my life" I said to the guy as he was just laughing.
