The old games just did with a first mission where you only have a few units without any builder.
The scond one gave you more units, the third just a factory and the basic economy buildings.
I really don't like tutorials, do we really need a voice/text telling us to do left click and right to to understand to discover how to play a game?
Yes we do, if in "we" we exclude you and those who don't need it. Not everyone is like you, likes what you like, and needs what you need. Just saying.
Aside from *how* Uberent will implement it, a way to introduce beginners and those who are new to the game into the mechanics of PA is really needed because it's directed to all those who might get the game and play it; as I already said, if an online game wants to live, it needs to keep attracting new players and make them play: a good tutorial is functional to make newbies enjoy the game faster, and the faster they start enjoying the game, the lower are the chances they drop it with a bad review on metacritic.
