The problem I have with this, is that allowing all units to shoot all units (admittedly poorly in some cases) you ironically enough prevent the exact scenerio you are currently enjoying. It is not so much that the aircraft were shot down by bullpups, it was that the aircraft were horribly outnumbered by bullpups. The problem is that your friend was a noob. No offense.

Against a more experienced player, your bulldogs would not have encountered a handful of aircraft, they would have encountered fifty or a hundred of them which would have flattened everything you owned. And worse, they wouldn't even have been gunships, they would have been hawks, an air superiority fighter which is designed to shoot other aircraft (not ground units).

But because it was TA, like your bulldogs, the aircraft would "shoot down" and because aircraft in TA are generally cheaper in metal than ground units, the aircrafts would have won. The irony here is that the slow moving gunships that were designed as an air to ground fighter were squishier than stealth fighters which were fast and difficult to hit. Once they existed, on most any map, all other units became irrelevant because they could hit all targets in the game, and were pretty much impossible to stop with anything except more stealth aircraft.

don't get me wrong. I loved TA a lot. But I never played it multiplayer for long because with all it's units and complexity, all strategy boiled down to two units. The flash tank, or the Hawk. Everything else, was buried by these two units. So I played mostly custom games with select friends, without aircraft or flash tanks being available. TA is a lot more intense without the classic rush units.

although most of what you say can be "solved" with balancing, but do those air to air missiles hitting tanks only do token damage then?

its concievable to balance something so that it works without hawk spam (or something similar), is the effort it worth it though? I think so.

I hope that they add that feature. I know the video is not the game set in stone, but you have air units being drop onto the enemy base and i am very sure they were exchanging fire on the way down. I know they are still technically land units but it wouldnt be a far cry to have fighters perhaps shoot these bots as they descend either.

If any unit can shoot anything it can aim at (if poorly in the case of a massive discrepancy between the projectile's speed and the target's speed), there should definitely be the option to configure your units' target priorities*. The last thing we want is for your idiot artillery to take pot-shots at passing scouts, only to watch the rounds sail past them and fall back to the ground on your own units. I think in TA this was mostly a problem with VLS units. They'd launch their missiles at aircraft, who would fly out of range before the missile could get a lock. The missile would then fly around in circles like a headless chicken for half a minute and then crash back down on one of your own units.

*Which is a good idea in general, if this is going to be "Macro over Micro".
