It used the be online only. They claimed it had to be online only. The game was modded to be offline capable within a day. When they caught people playing offline, they banned them from Origin.

I am also really pissed at how extremely extremely small they made the maps. (http://i.imgur.com/qn8Gl.jpg)(http://i.imgur.com/A3b5R4J.jpg) The claimed it was due to performance limitations, but once again, it was modded to be larger.

Their DLC model also means they release half of a game and then charge a lot of money for DLC. To buy all of the DLC for Sim City costs $85 according to Origin. And that doesn't include some of the free DLC that used to cost money, or the $40 (used to be more) cost of the game. The DLC, which contains hardly anything, costs over twice as much as the actual game. That is majorly messed up.

Just because they fixed what they did to screw over gamers upon the initial release after the HUGE blow up online about all of the &*$# EA did, doesn't mean it's magically a good thing.

I will not support the latest Sim City game simply because they panicked and reversed most of their bad decisions.

EA doesn't care about gamers or making quality games. They only care about how much money they can extort from gamers. They lie and cut corners.

By buying the game, even if you don't buy the DLC, you encourage EA to continue to put out $#% games, tank what was once amazing titles, and screw over gamers.

But we are way off topic.

Have you heard about Titan Fall?
That you have to buy a "server pass" to use servers.....Or else you are stuck with peer to peer.....Just LOL.

Its actually a good thing they cancelled generals 2 from what i heard. The series is not 'over', but that attempt is certainly not going to be the next C&C

Ok fair enough, I get your point on EA. Still in my defence I pre-ordered the game as it is a series that I've followed all the way through, the **** didn't hit the fan until release. And my experiences haven't been that bad- I think its fair enough to comment on things as you find them (for example I never had problems connecting to servers). The DLC is overpriced- still you really don't need it. There is allot more stuff to the new Sim City than the last version- the basic game does include everything you got with SC4 and quite a bit more. I think we need to be careful not to pay too much attention to internet hysteria (just look at the fuss on Steam regarding the PA alpha).

I get the general feeling that DLC is bad, but it isn't really the same thing as pay to win (which is allot worse). And at least in this case its something you keep rather than expensive consumables like in allot of the f2p mobile games out there (£60 for credits for Minion Rush anyone?)...

I also think its worth noting that UBER aren't against DLC (SMC) or on-line only play (PA- at least until release anyway). I also expect that paid DLC packs will be available for PA after launch and I don't see it as problem.

Modern games are being built to last a long time, they require support and therefore need to generate money after release. Remember that earlier games were only expected to be played for a short while- and then replaced with a sequel. PA is being built with longevity in mind, similar to things like Star Citizen, and both are aiming to create long term expansion and support- they have every right to charge for this.

My position on all this is simple- if I buy the game I expect to get *and keep* the game. If new material is made for it and is chargeable that's fine so long as it's optional and doesn't prevent me playing (so super units or enhancements against standard players is bad, but cosmetic things is fine). What I also don't like is if I pay for something then it expires for some reason (WOW for example). In this context the new Sim City isn't that unreasonable imo.

    Titan Fall...

...what disgusts me is that Software Houses actually pay reviewers and *journalists* for their *good* reviews.

It's all about money, folks. That's the bottom line.

    Agreed.
This is why i go to Neogaf to read opinions of new games...You can not trust places like PC Gamer, Gamespot, IGN etc these days.

I personally like the zero punctuation reviews, although generally overly harsh they do highlight the issues with games and I really doubt yantze is being bribed given the content. To be honest I've only ever heard one very positive review by him and that was for portal... He doesn't review rts games as a rule which is probably for the best lol

I don't recall them stated that specifically, I do know that they want to provide extensive post-release support, in some/many cases featuring new content. Of course, that does still leave room for some forms of DLC if they are handled correctly.
