Prizes are good to attract players.

Bragging rights are good enough for me though. I've been looking for a new pickup line for chicks. "Hey, I'm kckzi, and I just won an MNC tourney." PANTY DROPPPPER.

And yes, I introduce myself as my gamertag in real life.

I voted yes because I'd rather some small prize, but having prizes doesn't matter all too much to me. And I think charging an entrance fee would greatly reduce the number of people who entered, especially the new/unskilled ones. And it wouldn't have as friendly of an atmosphere to it either. Probably not what you're looking for.

Agreed, people may be more upset at "wasting" their money and whatnot.

Being able to say that I won an MNC tournament is more than enough of a prize for me, so I voted No.

It says this code is invalid. Am I doing something wrong?

The code can only be redeemed by one person. So whoever the first person to see it was got it.

A prize, hands down. Bragging rights is nice. If you decide no prizes, no biggie.

But anything, and mean just about ANYTHING would be better than nothing. Make their name green for winning a tourney, special tag, code to give game to friend (I know like three that I'd give it to right now) a discount on a store item, ANYTHING.

Actually, a code for a free game would be awesome. My friend couldn't recover his account when he got his 360 back, so he doesn't have MNC anymore, and I'm sure he'd love the free copy.

I'm thinking that, a store discount, or changing the color of their name (think Shadow Storm, Eka, and Scathis) would be the most compelling, and the least effort.

Prizes in Tournaments can purely be cosmetic
Recently due to the introduction of TF2 items, Valve has issued special hats to tournament winners here is an example - http://www.ozfortress.com/showthread.php?t=41785
This is also a way the devs can get involved with the community.
