All of my friends who played comp. 1.6 all the way through Source have now moved to GO.

They have patched GO quite a bit since it came out. Apparently in large part due to the comp scene.

Actually one of the reasons I dislike it lol.

Yea it's the easiest/most accessible 'comp' shooter. Like how LoL has a bigger audience/playerbase than DotA.

    Insult to Quack

    Edit:

That's pretty great, a developer that actually listens to the comp community.

I figure a game like Counter Strike is mostly competitive scene anyway. I don't see having much fun playing that game with a casual mindset. Of course, it doesn't really interest me anyway.

You'd be surprised at how many people pay for ESEA just to play in PUGs aka the casual man's 'comp' play.

I guess if mods are a big thing in the newer CSs I could see how casual stuff would be popular. I remember briefly playing CS 1.6 with I think the warcraft mod it was called.

CS:S is to CS as TF2 is to TFC/QWTF.

    Yeah, new stuff sucks!

(I don't particularly care about CS or TF, but you come across as a giant retro-douche xD I was stuck in Malaysia with a free internet that had CS1.6 and it didn't feel better to play than Source by any stretch of the imagination)

Matter of fact: most newer releases are "dumbed" down and "streamlined" (like that's a good thing) and what-not.

Some people just prefer games that weren't reduced to "look here and press a button, the game will get you there" aka hi my name is brink

That's because gaming in general is way more popular than let's say 10 years ago. Developers make easy games to maximise the profit.

The unfortunate truth is, the retro stuff actually is better in most cases when it comes to FPS. I'm 17 btw, I was still in kindergarten when most of that stuff was new.

And since grimbar asked why I deleted it, here's the link to phoon's completely clean ESEA account again:

edit: lol three posts at basically the same time saying the same thing

TF2 shows almost no relation to TFC aside from the 9 classes. CS:S is almost a straight port of 1.6 aside from graphical improvements, physics (any grenade criticism is well deserved. Grenades suck), and bug fixes.

That said, other than tardhopping, I have no issues with 1.6.

I didn't notice early CS being more complex than later releases, not by any significantly noticeable margin. It's one thing to admit that deeper and more complex games were more common back in the day, it's another to just say "everything from the 90s was awesome, stuff sucks now"
I will say I prefer UT2k4 to UT3 mostly just because there's FAR more variety in setting and characters, and that I still vastly prefer Halo CE to any of the successors which only held my attention for a few hours. I don't have that much of a history in shooters so I won't say much more, but CS, CS:S and CS:GO all play pretty much the same from a casual perspective. I just got sick of how aged Source looked, it's now the horrible middle child - not new enough, not old enough.

UT2k4 is favorite multiplayer FPS (with the possible exception of JKII).

Edit: My stance on CS boils down to "I hate bad grenades less than I hate bunnyhopping and Source doesn't look as bad"
Though I think bhopping doesn't fully exist anymore in 1.6 anyway.

He meant that TFC was a game that took time and effort to master, but doing so was rewarding and TF2 is well... TF2. The comp play is fun to watch IMO, but it's clearly easier. Also, what CS'ers call bhopping has way more in common with strafejumping actually aka way more than just right clicking (I use right click as my jump button) when you hit the ground.
