Also, doing lots of work on stability. After the new build was pushed on Saturday morning, we now can get useful crash dumps, which makes it a lot easier to track down and fix. Sorian already fixed one crash, and there's three other common ones that are being investigated.

I'm super glad for the new UI and added stability. Is there any word on games that fail to start? It's not really a crash, but it is an unrecoverable state that you can get into if someone's PC is slower than usual (naming no names and pointing no fingers)

Non-air scouting will be awkward until land units stop falling into cracks thought.

That's being worked on heavily as well. The way that fields get connected has a whole new setup that we haven't pushed yet.

We actually have quite a few people working on the game right now so things change quickly. Literally was just playing around with fog of war this morning....

    Aww, teasing us too...

Meanwhile I'm going to jump of a couple of buildings. (I re-installed Mirror's Edge yesterday.) Unless there is something specific that needs testing atm? Stability is pretty good for me. 30-60 fps most of the time.

In my opinion we're now in a hole where for some reason people want this alpha like gold except when they get this alpha I feel the PR damage (despite EVERY GOD DAMN WARNING IN THE BOOK) will be significant. I wish Uber could skip deploying the alpha tbh.

I don't think skipping it is the best PR move at all... but talking to the community, seriously and frankly without withholding any secrets over how "Bad" these first few weeks are going to be... that might not be the worst idea ever.

I know the Test Crew (ie. we privileged few) are almost unanimously worried about how the masses are going to react.

I expect as soon as they realize that PA runs pretty fine and that it has multiplayer we will see lots of balancing topics pop up. Maybe even requests for ladders and matchmaking. :p

Guys I'm with you but we don't have any choice. We have to stick to a schedule and go with it. Time = money.

Yup, and we're all smart enough to know that too Neutrino. I don't envy you your position though.

    We're behind you 100%.

I'm the first one to get that, but I just wish you didn't promise the alpha during the KS so you could just develop into the fall and then release a beta.

PA feels earlier in development than SMNC was during its alpha. I'm just worried about those who don't "get it".

Whether we promised it or not the financial pressure would still be there.

I pressed "D" on my keyboard while selecting my Commander... and the game crashed. Is that supposed to happen?

Update: Happens with any unit selected.

Currently, pressing d will freeze up your client for a long time.

For the Gits and Shiggles?

The console spams a whole lot of stuff about unit positions. What's the deal with that?

It's a debugging tool that's dumping client history. E.g. detailed stuff about the positions of all of your units over time. It's basically a window into the chronocam / replication system.
