Only if interplanetary assaults get balanced (READ: The Unit Cannon is added) before then, which won't happen. No multi planet maps until it gets fixed.

That, and the fact that due to the lack of this IP(interplanetary) matches can easily take over an hour. which is waaaaay too long.

Looks like Gandalf has dropped out of PACE or something.

I'll be talking to the rest of the guys and working on pumping life back into PACE.

I'm sure somebody will be holding those big community tournaments. If not PACE, then eXodus or another group probably will.

In the other thread, Zaphod had this to say about it.

It's not something we want to let happen. However we will have to do some reorganizing to take care of it.

What we need to keep PACE going is dedicated individuals who are willing to volunteer time and effort to help PACE work. Our old team has all but abandoned us in favor of Exodus.

He can say there's no rivalry. But if there's two groups doing one thing, there is rivalry. Exodus' name even takes a pot shot at PACE. I thought that name was lacking class.

However, the two groups seem to be two different types of tournaments. PACE focuses on community involvement and large tournaments where anyone can play or cast. Exodus focuses on closed tournaments ran by a small group of people casted by a small group of people played by invite only people.

I disagree with some of how you portray the difference, but I think in general you have it right. PACE has been having trouble making games that are fun to watch, which is the whole point of eSports. Having some really intense games between highly skilled players is a good way to bring the community together in the same way we all like to watch traditional sports with our friends. Giant tournaments with lots of games going at once is a lot of fun for the players and brings the community together in a different way, so I think both formats need to exist.

It mainly comes down to one is exclusive and the other is inclusive.

We'll see how this works, but if PACE does fall I think that the community as a whole will suffer from the exclusivity.

Perhaps one day PACE and EXodus can work together, but for now both are needed.

There is actually a pretty large number of people involved in eXodus, but yes it's true that they are trying to keep more control over their organization than other possible structures that they could have chosen for their group. I can't speak for them because I am just involved in a series that has partnered with eXodus and not in the group itself, but I think this was a good idea. The community will still be involved in a lot of ways, but the founders of the group still get a final say on everything. I think they will still need to give the community what it wants or risk becoming irrelevant, but all of their founding members have proven themselves to be good at this kind of thing.

While It might look better it does not allow for new players to come along and practice, meet people, join clans and just have a good time. which is what I liked PACE swiss style for and sure sometimes there was the odd organizational problem and some got annoyed with the money reward but it is a free to enter Tournament with a prize and a huge number of players compared the other Tournaments we have had :)

so I certainly hope PACE sticks around, their format was fun and it certainly helped me become a better player just like my clan has ^^ and sure I look forward to seeing the best of the best going at each other and having every game casted and such PACE style will allow for more players to have fun playing the game, learning, playing against some of the people that have become some of the best and perhaps one day will even join the best of the best :)

It all comes down to what do you want, A fun experience for any player of PA to come play or a fun event for lots of players and people to watch what happens :)

I think it's certainly valid to say that there's some overlap between PACE and eXodus. What Zaphod was pointing at is that, fundamentally, they aren't the same thing. PACE is based on democracy and community organization (besides the absolute power of the three, now 2, department heads, that's BP and OA atm), and people interested in working in that kind of environment work with PACE. EXodus offers a more top down structure, a clearer chain of command, and a greater emphasis on quality at the cost of quantity and widespread involvement.

The two organizations offer two fundamentally different things to volunteers, and it's a volunteer's choice which one to work for. That a lot of former PACE volunteers have chosen to work with us suggests the structure is working.

I think it's unfair to immediately assume we focus on a specific type of event. We don't. We do have a general preference: we focus more on the quality and less on the quantity. Fewer streams, fewer events, fewer players, but a much more satisfying experience. That comes our collective feeling that the large quantity of events is currently causing burnout. We don't intend to do away with massive 64 player open events, we just don't want to hold them as often, and make them something special.

Basically, I think the accusation of exclusivity on behalf of eXodus is premature. The only thing we're exclusive or strict about is who gets to run our events, and when an admin has the power to either make or waste an entire community's weekend, we think that's a good policy. The fact that we have an invitation doesn't mean we wont have an open.
