If we use as premise, that human kind is long gone and just robots remain, wouldn't that also imply, that the players commanding the robots would be robots?
Following that conclusion, shouldn't the UI also be in binary (you would save supporting multiple languages (aside from different binary dialects))? ;)

just beep if you agree. :)

"there are only 10 kinds of people, those who understand binary and those who don't"

You're really funny you know that? I am beside myself with laughter. I may even split my sides.

But really, it's clear that the game represents mankind's future. Having realised they're unable to conduct wars in the creative ways humans were capable of prior to the Great Dying, the robots have connected their command units via miniature wormholes to the past, where the ability to control said command units became available to humans that bought a certain game known as Planetary Annihilation.

Because Humans have made them?! Why wouldn´t they allow easier communication via human language instead of binarie connection?

    1. We dont know if humans made them, no such info has been mentioned.

    2. Becuse machines typicaly communicate with each other way faster then the human languish would allow. Even if they could speak human (to easily communicate with supposed human makers) they wouldent use it between units.

1.I think this information was mentioned anywhere i dont know, but who else could made them? Aliens? Then it would be another language which they would use.

    2.Yes,i agree.
But if they are high-end sh** technology they can emote emotions and if they can it would make more sense if they can speak a human(alien) language.

    1. No information has been given/confirmed, but it is a general assumption that they were created by a race (maybe humans) for war and that the race died out but the machines remain. However the "real" story (The one Uber decides on) may be totaly different, they may be the result of a natural evolution (Theres no reason why metalic beings simular to machines wouldent naturally evolve somewhere).

    2. Theres no reason for machines to simulate emotions. And even if they did. there would be no reason to use such a flawed, slow and primitive way of communication such as speaking, they could show there emotions in whatever way they do communicate.

Maybe it isn't logical, but it would be fun to have those funny phrases like other RTS in PA.

I'd hate it if there'd be some kind of unit voices in the game. Why would a future robot say the same 3 phrases every time you select it or give it an order. I really hope they'll do something like they did in TA, where each unit just made mechanical sounds.

Perhaps their primary examples of 'human language' were posts on this forum, and as such they concluded that attempting to communicate intelligibly with humans was a lost cause.

I want the robots to have voices because voices add character. Thats one of the few things I like about Starcraft and something I loved from C&C. Some of the units had such crazy but awesome personalities attached. They added something that wouldn't have been there otherwise

If the voices were like the early CNC and Red Alert games, I'd be all for it. Simple "Affirmative!" or "Acknowledged" instead of ten second spiels as to why they are the best unit ever (before promptly going out and getting fried by a laser tower).

I'm all for exploring alternative ways for units to acknowledge the player as opposed to clicks and buzzes, like maybe modem noises (like the unit is trying to make an audio connection with a 56 kilobaud modem to the player, but less grating).

Maybe different kinds of units could 'talk' using different kinds of waveforms, like the race has it's own form of audio communication, but it is still modulated to where it doesn't sound like human speech. Like air units would use noncontinuous triangle waves at varying frequencies, ground units use square waves, naval units sine waves, etc. (If you haven't experimented with this before, you should, because it's interesting)

The early ones had the developers themselves doing the voice acting (and even the unit portraits), and it was great. At they very least they sounded sincere. It got out of hand in the later games and became annoying.
