Right unless it plays out like it did previously where a diverse unit composition was a must not an exception.

There was definitely a sweet spot of balance that went out the window sometime around gamma. It wasn't perfect, but there was a ton more building diversity. People built actual fortifications, walls were useful, T1 was useful as cannon fodder, T2 was yes overpowered but you did still need some t1. I think mods will probably have to be the solution though unless Uber decides to get risky and really play with some of the values.

Why does the modd community have to balance the game? More players would be on the same page if the developer did it.

Speaking of sneaking tactics, I remember the days when we had drops in this game. Sure it rewards micro, but it was just more fun to watch than boring T1 bomber snipes nowadays.

The balance is not as bad as some think, IMO its pretty good (except naval but that can be used too) the reason we have only one dominant strategy is IMO humans are sheep. Experiment more. Some times/often you will fail, but you should be able to have fun either-way it is a game after-all and I'm pretty sure expansions/proxy-basing being abandoned by players was just a trend that turned into a rut and its still viable as a strategy.
The absence of tanks means the commander can get out there leading to commander strats. And walls while less than they were (*praises uber) aren't exactly useless, people not using them as much is just a trend too.

Even though i only go back to February/March, i remember how much different it was then. In 1v1 games which i was not even remotely part of, they were much slower, strategic objective based matches with lots of ways you can win in terms of army composition and artillery which is unheard of these days for 1v1. I developed a small list of what i can recall was the major advantages during beta - gamma

    1) Turrets were far more effective, which had the obvious downside of turtling in FFA, but made proxy bases and metal protection very important since defense was strong.
    2) Army composition mattered; the inferno/ grenadier combo was one i specifically remember towards the start of Gamma. There was no such thing as having all tanks, since they would not be as effective as a mix.
    3) Nukes and artillery was somewhat viable; correct me if i'm wrong but lines of pelters would completely counter a small force coming into a base if you could get it up in time. Nukes were also FAR less expensive, and risking not building an anitnuke could cost you the game. Nukes are just to expensive and not even possible with the current balance for obvious reasons.

Now, i'm not going to make a disadvantage list because the issues during that period were very strong and can be explained in phrases:

    1) T2 was too strong
    2) Air was not balanced
    3) Bots were almost useless as most people thought, dox were weak
    4) The combat fab meta (while it may be favored to some) was not fun. But they still need a cost decrease today.
    5) Game pace was slow for some (subjective)

See the pattern? All the disadvantages were fixed, but none of the advantages were taken into account! The 1v1 today is the opposite of 1v1 back then, and FFA today is more like 1v1 back then! (with the obvious flaws of both disregarded)

see elodea's post in balance thread under thread expansions are dead, and you will see you are mistaken. Many have expiremented and there has proven no deviation from meta can stand a chance with equal skilled players playing. Also you can tell from the voting ppl like the previous variation better.

I read it, there is some doubt among the posters in that thread too. Tanks slaughter dox, this is something that has proven to be true, they also have an aa-unit meaning that dox+bombers are not able to stop vehicles advancing in a particular direction. Dox and planes can also not stop a commander from doing whatever he wants [proxy?] until critical mass has been reached. I believe it is entirely possible to build a proxy base while a group of tanks holds the ground so a group of fabs can lay a line of walls in front of the tanks, and build a factory to build - whatever buying more time to build more units and ultimately that proxy base will be a success. This is just a theory in terms of highlevel play because the people I play aren't, but I'm certain it is possible people have just thrown in the towel too early.

Edit: We also got teleporters.. people are not using these anywhere near creatively enough even though they got a ton of health and go up fast. A one stage people thought teles would replace or assist proxies but this never eventuated as people only seem to use them to get off planet.

Your missing overarching point of the topic i think. Expanding, multi tier, multi unit, multi front, battles are non viable in this balance.

In 1v1 its currently mainly about spamming units as hard as possible, and this gets old pretty fast.

1v1 never gets into t2, the game is normally over much before it appears, but t2 is almost vital in large player games. This creates an odd break between strategies in professional and casual games.

You're mixing metas. Grenadiers didn't exist until the combat fab meta and it was ants, not dox, that were UP (but not useless) during the era we're talking about.

i don´t want to play mods to have good ballance ... those mods SHALL SHOW how the ballance in PA shall look like and uber adjust torwards that with their unitpool ... not invalidating vanila ... not everyone is going to play multiplayer not everyone is going to play with mods ... and you wont get everyone to play with mods like that ...

PS: i don´t get what the poll is supposed to mean ... pls fix ...

Oh thanks, well my points still stand i guess.

I still don't remember tanks being UP though, always dox until now, unless you mean even further back...

The march to may balance gave tanks little going for them. You couldn't raid with them, they were slaughtered by defenses, and they couldn't do a thing to T2. At least the dox could do the formermost thing.

to me the only thing lame to watch currently are multiplanet battles due to lacking flexibility of orbital and full waterplanets due to naval being a bit too slow (and missing hovercrafts) ...
as far as single planet 1v1´s and ffa´s go they actualy quite show variants of play ... i don´t see too many people only going dox to be honest as some here seem to argue about ...

Translation: The months March to May gave a power increase for tanks, but they were not good at raiding and were destroyed by defenses.
