    Step 1: be right in the middle of a crowd-funding fad/explosion with redonkulous fundings happening left and right, before major disappointment/reality syndrome sets in

    Step 2: have some developers from a 90's game with a sufficiently large nostalgia factor among 20+ crowd

    Step 3: lots and lots of hype

    Uber is halfway there, moving at fast speed :)

    That is an example of how to successfully develop a game, it's independent of the hype-driven Kickstarter cycle! Uber is doing a great job managing the game for sure.
