Sorry, can anybody elaborate on what this really means? I assume this simply means the tracking of a history of an object for the purposes of chronocam?
I'll try to explain and sorian can correct me later... during each tick of the sim any mutations (changes) are being copied to the history server used by client connections and this process was single threaded blocking the tick until finished. With multi-threading enabled this no longer blocks the tick for pure copies (not retiring entries) and the sim can continue while the copy finishes.
Oh cool, makes sense. Is this particular optimisation exciting? It seems like the only multi-threading optimisation likely to apply to single planet 1v1 AI games, which for some reason I'm loving. I guess area patrols have gotten a boost too which looks interesting.
Pretty much everything in the servers list will improve performance for single planets:
Best note in patch notes:
Real awesome to see some continued patching folding in!
Humm very nice.
I have another question.. Is mikeyh working on these patchs? So he has access to the source code? Is he a hidden Uber Employee? =)
Not an Uber employee (or contractor).
The question remains, but I understand that you cannot talk about it. Just keep doing the great work
His official title is in fact "Secret Hack Wizard".
I have seen his code. Can confirm.
