I haven't played for a little while and after starting up again, the UI is still in dire need of improvement. It's difficult to distinguish between many of the units, it's also difficult to select them, it's difficult to even find your commander, and it's very difficult to interact with orbital units.

There should be a column of buttons on the left, the 1st should be your commander and always visible. Single clicking this should select your commander, double clicking it should take you to your commander. Below that one should be a button for each type of unit on the planet you are currently on with a number indicating how many of that unit type is on the planet. Single clicking on this button will select all of of that unit type on the planet. Double clicking should take you to the highest concentration of that unit type. Shift clicking across the different unit types should allow you to add all of the newly selected unit type to your current selection of units.

It would also be good to have another column next to the unit column that is the column of factories on the current planet to make selecting the factories easier.

Finally, it may be a good idea to have another UI element that is a row in the bottom left that shows the currently inactive fabricators, one UI element for each fab type, possibly also limited to only the inactive ones on the current planet. Continually clicking on one of these UI elements would cycle through selecting each fab and moving the camera to that fab.

I believe these changes would hugely improve the user experience while playing.

In the meantime, you can tap the key 'c' once to select your commander and then tap it again to go to the commander's location. Additionally, if you double click on a certain unit, it will select all of the units of that type inside your current view (or use Ctrl+Z)
