Oof..... This thread. So many interesting opinions. I especially enjoy the labeling of Americans as if they are some form of an ethnic group filled with a culture of racist, hypocritical, "shoot first ask questions later" individuals while suggesting other countries are "holier" by doing the reverse in some variation. Everyone's hands are dirty and ridiculing others for it is unfortunate.

Sadly, this thread has turned into a game on who has the strongest hindsight. Blurting the answer out once its given is easier than actually finding out how to solve the problem. I enjoy discussions on policy, but this has turned into the game of politics.

There is no need to be explicit. The majority of the individuals on this thread are educated enough to read through the posts again if needed and recognize the criticisms I made. Whether you disagree with them is your opinion.

One could argue that semantics misconstrued my interpretation, but I disagree. Granted there is no way to "disprove" my argument because I havent listed the posts that my claim is coming from. I apologize for being lazy. Consider me crazy.

nah, there are certainly such people in america, but whenever "pegida" makes their next demonstration I am reminded there are just as many stupid people around here.

    As here unfortunately.

That image I posted is really the view I get from our media about what a "typical" stereotype of an American is. Don't worry we get these same bad stereotypes of muslims and everyone else.
Media is very powerful. And from my point of view has a big influence in the american politics.
I remember seeing those slander ads for president candidates, I really hope they don't pick up that practice over here. The one thing I find fascinating in american politics is how they managed to turn the word socialist into communist basically.
It's fascinating to see Trump so high in the polls for the nomination, I guess it's mostly an anti-politics vote. But well you really don't have a lot of choice with only 2 parties.
America it's weird to a Belgian (or in the world's eyes european terrorist capital) :)

I'm glad the Republican leadership is starting to really speak out against the worse things Trump is saying.

I'm not a Republican myself, but it's nice to see that as much as the party has been trying to appeal to the extreme right nutjobs the past few elections that the party can still recognize insanity. Let's hope this is enough of a reality check to get congress back in line.

It probably won't be, but a man can dream.

I can attest that almost everybody in Engineering at my university does not think like that. Outside of my university, pretty much everybody I know does

If Donald Trump becomes president, there will be people in the US who commit seppuku. I'm calling it now.

But at least people are listening to those speeches.

He and Ted Cruz are 10x better than the 2 democrats left in the race. At this point I just don't want Hillary or Bernie to even come close at the presidential chair.

Trump and Ted Cruz are utterly insane imho. Totally beyond me who you can't see that.
Trump is an insane xenophobe, all his arguments and the way his interaction with his followers seem to work (demand your followers to loudly just scream "Trump" in case any critic shows up during your speech) reminds me of a very dark chapter in German History.

Ted Cruz. Well on his site he has statements like this:
"Life is a precious gift from God."
"Extreme leftists — activist judges, the Obama Administration, and academic elites — are trying to extinguish these most fundamental, God-given rights."

To me statements like these are fitting for a religious extremist about to fight a holy war. Very unfit for a politician, even more unfit for a politician of a democratic nation.

Personally I'd vote for Bernie, in the list of his "Issues" on his site there isn't a single header I disagree with at least and the few deeper reads I did into some topics all read promising as well.
If I were American I might actually get a little politically active to support him.

Do you realize that Bernie is a socialist?

    Has socialism ever worked?

Obviously he must abide by the Constitution, but he offers "free" college, "free" bla bla bla which is perfectly legal and constitutional (usually) but it is absolutely terrible for the economy. Trump will make America closer to China, which is a fantastic thing. Trump doesn't get this successful with business if he doesn't know how to run large scale networks.

EDIT: Just for the record, I don't want to be here when America continues to gather trillions in debt.

It has in a number of European countries, though I don't think it'll work in the US on a large scale.

I also don't think there's a chance in hell of him passing a fraction of his proposals. But I also don't think he'd abuse executive orders the way I believe Trump is willing to. Trump is a successful businessman because he's ruthless. I don't want a president like that. Bernie has a history of playing by the rules and losing on passing policies. He might be able to sway some things as president, but he still won't inflict any lasting change without the support of congress. And we're going to have a Repiblican congress.

Hillary has more experience in the executive branch than anybody else running. If you think that's good because she knows her way around or bad because you're against traditional politicians is up to personal preference. I'd rather have a traditional politician than Trump, because the US right now is doing fine on a national scale with outlying regional issues. The chances of a traditional politician messing things up astronomically are slim.

Trump has the two most important qualities of a successful businessman. The ability to find weaknesses in others and the willingness to exploit them. Those are not the qualities I want in a president.

Ted Cruz I don't actually think would do much as president, but I fear for his Justice appointment. He's nutty enough to not get support in legislature, but appointing a nutter to the Supreme Court would absolutely suck.

And here I am, typing way too much.

tl;dr Anyone but Trump. No preference between Bernie and Hillary.
