Any suggestions for what it should be about? Any burning questions out there on what I do as a designer?
how you manage to get so little done in such a long span of time? Yes, what do you do as a designer? (that one is a real question)
Illustrate the process of design and implementation of features, focusing on how you interact with the developers and what kind of problems usually arise.
I place a marker at the correct radius distance away from me and just wait for the world to revolve around me.
Hmmmmmm game clarity sounds like a good idea On a typical day we playtest, make changes, argue, playtest make changes etc.
How do you break into the industry as a game designer? I want to be a game designer but it seems like no one hires designers unless its a new company. I've written some design docs and am constantly thinking of gameplay mechanics. I'm going to college for computer sci next year but I definetley don't want to be a full time programmer. I'm confused on what I should do to land a job as a designer.
Typically people don't get hired as designers, they move into that position later on. Those that do get hired directly either have experience at another company or a large amount of amateur stuff like mods. Learning how to program is a huge leg up because then you can create your own small games to test your design ideas. The best way to get into the industry is to simply start making games on your own. Flash games seem like a good place to start these days but there are plenty of alternatives.
Helping out on mods is a great way to get some experience. If you're interested in getting a design job, you need to show that you can take an idea and flesh it out into a playable gameplay demo. Get yourself a copy of the free Unreal Development Kit http://udk.com/ and look at the forums there to more info.
Ditto to what Neutrino and Ekanaut said. Show you can do the job and you'll have a much better chance at getting one. Mods show, docs tell. Show don't tell.
