Is spending money on gear pretty much a necessity in happy wars? Or can you make do at a high level without it.

No it isnt, but it helps... LIKE ALOT, in most situations in that video i would of died instantly if i didnt have the gear that i have on... but gear cant replace the "skill" part of that game...

Also this, My wall hax sniper with 200% accuracy on adderal.

Can you get gear that good without paying for it?
