Actually with planet rotation and orbit the way shadows form can lead to identifying hills! xD But I'd like to see a return of SupCom's Cartographic mode if possible.

No identifying at midday or at night then.
If you need to turn the graphics off to have the information you need, then there is something wrong with the game.
I only used it when my PC wasn't strong enough to handle everything. That should be the reason for it to be there, not the additional UI.

I guess if you managed to get the fast movers onto the mesa the minimum range would become a problem, but mind you there's a CLIFF between the artillery units and whatever they're shooting at.

In war, one should seek to take and hold the high ground. From there, the enemy's movements are clearly visible, and he will struggle just to reach you, let alone fight you. High orbit is the highest ground there is.

Yes some features like cliffs and things would really add some interesting diversity. The cracks in the surface are interesting, but right now their only practical effect is to stuff up the pathfinding :)

It'd be nice if other features like the high ground, cliffs etc made the choice of where to spawn a bit more rich. Right now I look for places with as much metal as possible - and if possible, no nearby cracks. Having areas rich in metal but disadvantaged in other positional ways would be interesting.

Right, I actually meant things like the sheller or stomper. Both of those are mortars so their shells would arc above the top of the cliff and simply fall a short distance to where the artillery is. This is under the assumption that the cliff is small enough to fit only one or two artillery structures on it, maybe some AA towers for cover. If it's a taller cliff, that won't be a problem, and if the artillery structure is far enough back from the edge of the cliff, mortars won't be a problem either.

I totally understand that line-of-sight shots like rockets, tank shells, lasers, and etc will simply strike the side of the cliff. But if you have cliffs where you can't get your bots or tanks up on top of to destroy the artillery, the mortars would likely be the way to go, no? (other than bombers, but that's ignoring air superiority which cannot be guaranteed)

    Edit'd for spelling
