I know randy pretty well :p He plays core quite often :)

If your asking me 'can you beat the top players of the game in the world', honestly not consistently, although that's little to do with my choice of side. If you know rANDY then you also know he's one of the UK's all time best Starcraft players, with an APM that is simply off the charts. When I was playing ta regularly I was probably just into the top 50. The guys your mentioning are top 10. That's the same as me playing Elodea, Yeagz and so on in PA. Proving I can't beat said players isn't proving anything really.

I mean the concept that 'ARM is better' does stem a lot from map choice. The most popular competitive TA map by a mile is GOW (I hate that map btw lol). It's a really odd, a symmetrical water map. It suits arm very well due to the pelican being waaay better than the gimp. That said, in a *team game* there is an advantage to playing 1 arm 1 core, rather than 2 arm thanks to cores much stronger t1 bomber. You have one player go arm (for the usual peli / bertha rush strat), the core player starts air being fed energy from his allies more traditional build. You've got a t1 bomber before your opponent has finished their first factory, then you go kill all their start mex and generators, whilst sending an air fabber to reclaim the rocks and catch up.

If all you've watched are perpetual matches on GOW though, most games will be arm v arm as that suits the map better usually. On a larger land map core is imo actually a stronger move than arm. The question of which is 'better' depends a lot on many factors, including game type (team, 1 v 1?), map choice and so on.

Was / is arm the preferred side? Yes absolutely. Is it outright better though? I say no, and with two equally skilled players you can definitely win with Core.

Anyway when all said and done, the whole purpose of this thread in reality is to spur a few people into playing a bit of OTA for fun :) Sometimes it's nice to revisit something. I would highly suggest if you used to play TA then why not join us for a few games, the debate is irrelevant imo- I'll play core because I prefer core, you can play arm if you prefer no matter :p

Yes i know that randy played Broodwar too. ig.randy was his acc. There were people with more apm though and he wasnt even a top broodwar player (very good but not top at all).

Fair enough. I did not want to say that CORE is unplayable either. I just had the feeling that ARM is better on top level.

PS: i hardly played TA i mainly play TA Zero

As I'm not a Starcraft player I can't really comment on his starcraft history, from what I've been told (by randy and quite a few others) he was a very good player of original Starcraft.

Hi, I'm potentially up for some games still (sorry haven't got around to replying to your pm). I'm just really busy atm so I've not really been playing any games.... You could try @stuart98?
