Just wanted to throw out there for anyone with a newer model of the phenoms, my Phenom IIx4 980 @ 3.7GHz(stock) runs the alpha fine so far (with only 4GB RAM, what have you). I'd suspect the processors lower in the 900 series would do alright.

I reckon he'll be just fine. I run a 980 which essentially a 965 with a higher stock clock. If it does have trouble, which I doubt, it should run sweet at 3.7GHz. The 5770's should do alright, though SLI is not supported yet, so rig may get bottlenecked there until that support comes in.

At this stage the RAM is probably less of a factor. Running on my 4GB but on a phenom 980 and a GTX670 I have no problems, though I did almost max out my ram in a game earlier (which I very rarely see). It is probably worth noting that I do have a SSD, that would help my small amount of memory.

Also, the 9800 is what, 2, 3 generations behind the 560? That isn't a small upgrade. I used to have a GTX9800 (not the GTX+ I admit) and it had large troubles playing Battlefield 3 but was alright with starcraft 2. That rig was really average for supreme commander. When I upgraded to a GTX560, the difference was as clear as day. Also the Phenom 810 is miles behind that i7.

The hierarchy charts for GPUs and CPUS at tomshardware.com are a good reference point on this topic.

For those who think my lack of RAM is holding back other features of my rig (GTX670), I assure you I actually intend on getting another pair of 4GB sticks to get myself to 12GB as soon as there is a special on at the local. I'll can tell you then if it makes a significant difference.

    That would be nice! :ugeek:

I just tried it again with the lower end machine and it is still very laggy. I could log in with no problem so there is a big positive difference.

It is still unplayable with my lower end machine.

I suspect PA will be able to run on low end machines after more optimization.

    I have a 960T and I'm always at around 50%
