I am not going to upgrade for PA, and I'm running a 3570k with 16GB RAM and a 768MB 460GTX (Win8 x64). I'm also in the alpha. Baseless speculation from me is if this rig won't handle 4 player with me hosting then Neutrino can't write a scaleable engine, and we all know Neutrino can write engines If you want to grab a 3770K now because they are cheap, then grab one now. While it makes sense to wait until closer to release to get better hardware for the price point, if you are happy with the current price point then go for it. At some point you have to stop waiting and actually buy stuff  I'll also be trying it on my ZBox with a D525, 4GB RAM and nVidia Ion chipset (Mint 14 x64). That may well (read: definitely will) struggle, and I'm going to be using it as the destruct test box to see how well low-end graphics hardware deals with the client (that could be amusing and/or irritating as hell), and also run it as a dedicated server to see what limits that spec CPU/RAM hardware can (and can't) deal with. It probably more closely mirrors the sort of hosted box that people might be setting up for internet games, although those will more likely be Xeons rather than Celerons
I still have my i7 920. It's worth more today than when I bought it 4 years ago. I can only assume that the US has gone backwards in the tech race.
^ I've got a 930, and I'm in the same boat. The reason the price has gone up is Intel discontinued the 1366 configuration. It's supremely frustrating, but the 920 should be enough to run and host a decently sized game. (I'd be really angry with Intel, but I got mine with an employee discount as I interned there).
This message is for anyone buying an ssd or 2. There is no point in getting anything under 200 gig. the price point dictates this (i.e bang for buck). The other thing that seems to be missing from this discussion is the fact that pro or ultimate versions of windows are the only way to utilizes more that 16 gig of ram(i.e premium 64 bit only goes up to 16 gig)
According to Microsoft: So it's only valid for Win7 and Vista Home versions, Win8 will let you use more memory than the motherboard will handle (well, more than mine, anyway) in the standard build. Even 8GB is a reasonable limit TBH, that should be plenty to get a decent size game going; my previous gaming rig was 4GB and that didn't really get overtaxed by any of the current gen games.
I don't plan on installing much stuff. I only have Open Office Writer and Impress installed on this netbook and I don't open those very often at all. In fact on this netbook only 20GB is being used by things OTHER than music and video. Running XP S3. lol Most of my computing is done on the internet and occasional graphics work for my own amusement, but I would love to watch things in 1080p and play the occasional game and just do things in general without lag. I want to do it like a teenage boy wants to do... IT.
Sounds like the MSI is going to be overkill for some tasks, and just right for others then. If you can afford it, then go for it I reckon. Just make sure Windows is in the right language
Yeah I can't remember which language he said it'll be in. I'm fluent in Korean so I shouldn't have much trouble, though. If anything it'll just piss off any non-Korean speaker who decides to use my computer in the future. hahahaha They won't be able to change minor settings to annoy me.
If it's displaying in Hangul, then you'll just get blank stares and maybe a "what the hell is this running?"
Erm, it definitely doesn’t in any way mirror hosted boxes that people will setup for internet games. The D525 isn’t even a Celeron, it’s an atom, and frankly, it will struggle to even load the server software, let alone host a match. Even something like an E6300 – one of the first gen Core 2 parts is about 3 times as fast - in fact even a Pentium 4 EEis twice as fast as an atom D525. TLDR: don't even bother.
