Pretty sure they can't IP ban around here, or a lot of users would've been banned a long time ago. Either that or Uber doesn't care about hardcore trolls.
Does this forum require that you respond to an email in order to register? That can cut down quite a bit on spam bots, as not all of them are equipped to handle that. Some can create legit email accounts and respond to them, but most just use fake emails like "asdkjfhaklsjdhfalksdjh@asdfd.com" when they register (I've seen that on my forum before). I was able to practically eliminate the huge wave of bots I was getting by tweaking my captcha settings and requiring a confirmation email.
Have you noticed how noone actually reports the spambots? I can be off the forums for hours and come back to finding spam posts that have a dozen or so views but weren't reported
I tried a little experiment. I reported every spam post I saw for a week, then I went a week without reporting them. The results were the same. Why would I waste the time reporting spam if it doesn't make any difference. In fact, I believe moderators have to also "view" and "close" reports from users, so now I would also be wasting their time as well as my own. I'll pass, thanks.
Kind of getting really tired of all the recent drastic increase on spam posts. I don't mind reporting the ones I see but they're terribly annoying to constantly deal with. Any luck with making the forum more anti spam bot?
They're just going to drop support for this broken forum in favor of a newer, broken-er forum. Get ready for a new pay-to-post forum design! By the way, I would love to be a part of the new forum BETA team.
I really don't want to come onto this forum and see porn bots. The massive spambot issue is getting looked into, right?
The GPGnet forums had bad attacks from bots there to, Im not sure how they fixed it, but maybe a captcha that is randomly generated might help slow them down? Maybe the captcha could be at registration AND at posting?
