So... what is the actual point of iron sights in FPS games?

I dunno about you guys, but the iron sights makes me more accurate.

It's easier for me to hit when aiming down a gun, then freeballing a shot at a circle on the screen.

It lets me aim better, otherwise I can only hit with a shotgun, or flame-thrower. I can never hit someone with hip shooting with a machine gun unless I spray fire.

Aim assist was invented a looooong time ago for console players fps games, its not a huge thing it just means you follow the player the game just sort of adjusts it just a bit. The idea was because it's so much harder to be as exact as a mouse with an analog stick.

The only point where it's ridiculous is in games where aiming down sights instantly snaps to someone the first time you go down.

With the introduction of the steam controller we may see AA Dade away, as the steam controllers pads are as exact as a little mouse pad on a laptop. Very innovative design.
