Also half the difficulty in mechanizing things like tails is making it look like and actaully flex to a decent degree.

What Mike said. Also it needlessly increases the bone and poly count. I'm not sure how harsh the restrictions will be for PA but neutrino spoke of large multiplayer games with up to 40 players. So we probably want to save as many polygons as possible. ;)

Cool idea, cool pic and cool everything, roll in the animal like bots.
Just to say though I think that it would be very cool to have some robots will biological parts, but it would just be for looks.

Submarines that whip through the sea like a swimming snake!

Also squids/octopuses. Cephalods are awesome, mechanical ones would be nearly as awesome.

    Exactly what I meant.
And I fully agree: Cybran Rex wasn't cool at all.

Take a look at the pics. Those robots are definitly robot style. No tails, no tentacles, no exact defined animal shape. Most of them might have a spider shape, but I think the robots look more like tanks with legs.

    Insects are animals.
But yes! Most of them are insect shaped, because it is a cool style.

multi-legged bots would be kind of cool, but it depends of the use of those legs.

for exemple, a two-legged human shaped bot is useful in order to have extened vision, but is kind of under-efficient for speed.
on the other hand, a four-legged bot would have shorter sight, but would easily be twice or three times faster when dashing.
if we continue, six and eight legs are less convenient for speed, but then you can manage to climb on approximately any surface.

otherwise, wheels or tracks are simply more efficient on flat ground.

but well, boats with legs and spiderbots are awesome ! =D
