Bhaal, I am only one person from this community, but I would like to setup my server to host PA games, aswell as try to find some people that would like to join my TS server as soon as there is a server to install. (chatting/watching others/play PA yourself)

I can only imagine there will be more people that would like to setup servers.

Another server question I came up with is about IGP/GPU support.
I think I might have read about it somewhere, cant really remember.

Question: Will the PA server be able to utilise the gpu/igp?
Might be usefull for calculating many parallel processes (AI/SIM)

as far as I remember, it was mentioned, that the server hardware isn't necessarily expected to be strong on the GPU side, therefore a specific GPGPU approach for the server side isn't planned.

Not to mention it's questionable whether GPGPU would be useful for the simulation anyway.

fair enough, don't know how much number crunching has to be done within the server. I would guess the real time requirements of a game server would be a problem for practical use of GPUs. Most half way efficient GPU applications I have seen, tend to have enough workload to balance it between CPU and GPU, which doesn't really do good for the response times. Otherwise you would just shuffle relative small bits of data back and forth between CPU and GPU, which isn't really a good use of a powerful GPU.

Yeah, I haven't seen anyone come up with a nice mapping of our algorithms to the GPU. There are myriads of problems with this and in most cases unless you are simply moving more rendering type work over I have yet to be convinced it's worthwhile. Most physics stuff done on the GPU is simply render fluff.

Neutrino it is really nice to see you respond to so many questions/topics on the forum.

I'm thinking that if the host disconnects, the next most capable machine will assume responsibility of the game.

It is, but when does he get time to work on the game..?

On their livestream about the AI, it was addressed towards the end that multiple games could be run on one server... Private galactic war for one's clan.
