Being a unity experienced user, and well versed in libraries that follow the OpenGL standard i doubt it.

Unity and unreal engine provide a solid basis for programmers and provide fully featured editors, not to mention you can get them for free. They are however not suited for making RTS style games because you have to work a lot to make anything decent, from pathfinding to large data storage using grids.

Whatever they might sell its not going to be the next unity or even at the unreal engine level. What i mostly find interesting is the server code, pathfinding and targeting algorithms on spherical style maps.

Also the destructability of planets while mantaining the pathfinding im curious if they just plain leave the pathfinding grid intact but add a huge dynamic obstacle to stop units from going there.

Whenever hills are added to the game officialy i think if they get targeting right could also be an interesting feature.

Last game that i can remenber doing RTS style on planets is SPORE by EA.
Everything else you can find a lot of it done or touched upon on, even planet generation, although not as explored and implemented in a game.

What they have here is a game first and foremost not a selable engine.

I have a strange feeling that Uber is going to integrate your PA Stats mod in, since it's so effective any many already use it :p

The reason why they can't include the code as easily as i.e. it was possible with raevns ingame browser is that it relies on pastats.com as backend for the stuff it does. I doubt it is a very reasonable idea to include code in PA that relies on pastats.com So yeah while I would not mind, I don't think it is a good idea. The best thing that I think makes sense is some sort of "community efforts" area in the main menu that has info, news, etc about what stuff the community is building for the game with matchmaking being the first project displayed. The idea here is that it is visible to people, even if they completely ignore all news, the forums, all chats, etc.
It also adds a nice "Uber helps the community to find each other" touch to it.

The way companies to this is acquisition. They just buy such products or form a partnership after signing proper contracts ensuring mutual interests. Nothing is impossible.

You messed up the quote, haha.

Also, you do realize that's the guy who made pastats, aye? ;)

Yea, I messed the quote. No, I did not know. But it does not change anything :)

I also don't think that full-blown stats are essential for regular players. Ranks like in Spring would suffice (1h played, 10h, 50h, 500h, more, whatever)

Agreed. Uber could do a lot to promote community efforts, which would in turn make for a better game experience for everyone involved.

The community does a lot of awesome stuff. It would be of great benefit for Uber to show off what the community does.

It doesn't even have to be that hard! Just a facebook post here and there featuring a mod (like PA Stats), or an awesome game, or a tutorial, or something.

This is social marketing 101, and I don't get why Uber doesn't do it.

They don't get it on a personal level. After all, they are developers.

They know mods currently make games thrive and lack thereof kill games. They know it is in their best interest to support mods from an objective standpoint of their own.

They have no interest in community projects mounted with the game, other than "players make cool stuff to retain other players", they are also professionally bound not to use outside work on an official capacity because then it becomes out of their personal control. They can't have an official ladder that they themselves have no personal moderation of, that would make them second class citizens of their own dynasty.

They have a game to build, we have little pet features we help maintain. It is mutually for the best if they are used to their best capacity, and Uber at least listing in PA Main Menu the community ran tools helps Uber lift stress off requested things and the community broadcast use of their facilities.
