  2. RADAR should keep tract of identified objects while they remain in range

  3. RADAR should tell you the general type of unit (air, sea, land, submarine)

  4. RADAR should be able to identify the location of ballistic weapons that fire into its range

  5. RADAR should tell you the general size of the object (small, medium, large, huge)

  6. RADAR should indicated the recent movement of units (leaves a short visible trace)

    18 vote(s)

  7. RADAR should be limited to line of sight (i.e. terrain and the curvature of the planet blocks RADAR)

  8. Units should be able to detect if they are detected by RADAR and indicate this somehow.

  9. Unit size should effect RADAR range (i.e. small units are detected are shorter range)

    19 vote(s)

  10. RADAR should not give the precise number of far away units, but only the "mass" of the detected crow

Sounds like an active/passive radar system. I like the sound of it.

Keep it simple with the basic fixed range but an indication of the target domain and approx. size would be nice.

There's a serious flaw in your maths.

Your calculations don't look past the horizon.

A 100m tall radar tower should be able to just see another 100m tall radar tower that's twice your calculated number.

That makes it 4km sight distance on a 7853 km² map. And that assumes that we have a 100m tall RADAR and 100m tall RADAR target. I do not think most RADAR will be that tall nor targets. The point still stands.

I think this problem is drastically simplified if you just assume that Line of Sight curves with the planet it's being calculated on.

Then all LoS calculations become analogous to the 2D terrain case.

On the Radar Jammer, I would like to see two modes.
    1. Hide units within a certain radius
    2. Fake units within a certain radius

We could do this with one unit, with a toggle, or two units - I don't really mind. Some will say #1 is too much Micro.

These would make a nice distraction from one position, while hiding your true force from another position.

By all means limit what you can hide, perhaps a 100m Battleship cannot be hidden, unless we have a large naval Jammed unit, that is quite expensive.

So Combining Stealth and Jamming into the same unit? Eh. If something is unique enough to require a separate mode, why not just make it an extra unit?

For my here what I always thought of in terms of Jamming basically within it's radius, it creates an impenetrable mass of radar signatures, basically Brute-Force Stealth but it still stands apart because it works whether you've got a hidden force or not, so whereas Stealth is meant to remove attention, Jamming Draws attention.
