This would make everyone happy, so let's all shut up and move to some other controversial RTS disagreement.

I honestly can't think of how they would be used otherwise, spare the envisioned "asteroidal-impact prevention system" shown in the trailer.

But you are correct: I did assume they would act like they do in ANY other game in history. I can't think of any RTS - or game for that matter - where a nuke is not called down to rain hell in a spot-click.

If they can somehow come up with a different use I'll be very impressed.

That's a discussion for another thread (please feel free to make that thread, because I'd also like to see new concepts for nukes).

Lets say there are 2 players, player 1 starts creating an army while player 2 spams nukes. Player 1 will send air and land (navel) at player 2's base. Player 2 without an army and just a bunch of nukes that cant track units (just assuming the tracking part :) ) You might be thinking player 2 will just nuke player 1's base, player 1 can just move.
This was just an example at how nukes wont be the almighty doomsday.

PS it would also be an option to fly to an asteroid-etc :D :ugeek:

    Let's be honest.
Who here has not been having fun playing the alpha as is? The meteors aren't there, the orbitals aren't there, the 40+ player battles aren't there. still tons of fun.

Not to say I am not looking forward to the game as envisioned but it is pretty solid already. Glitches, lack of features and all. A very fun game.

This. PA makes me feel all nostalgic about the golden days of RTSes... Which I actually missed, so I don't know why I feel nostalgic. But it is very reminiscent of TA, which is excellent.

All they need is gigantic volatile windmills with which to power your base.

    Indeed the fun is here...
Its just we on alpha and we pay moore then usual player will pay,so we want to participate in what we agreed or not....
Fun is with depending the faction maybe uef or aeon on FA ANY 1 CAN KILL EXP WITH SHILDS AND ONLY T1 PD´S

exp are part off battle with help off ground air sea units and other stuffs....
aren´t uber try make diferent game?

Building armies? Why not a experimental with the support of a bigger army to destroy the enemy army + his base?
The feeling of how the enemy hopelessly tries to throw everything at you is a great feeling.

I don't understand quotes like these. In a simple total war RTS like PA, TA or SupCom, surely any engagement that isn't raiding involves "throwing everything you have"?

I don't understand quotes like these, but for a different reason. Absolutely crushing an enemy lets me know I beat someone that is worse than me, which isn't a good feeling. I prefer to play a fair game where someone else and myself have to fight tooth and nail for every metal site, we have to scramble all our forces when there is a stealthy flank from the back door, we have to bury our Commander under layers of factories and Hummingbirds so he isn't snipezor'd.

THAT is a fun match. When you can feel your heart beating, a bit of adrenaline and a few beads of sweat on your brow. That's why I play RTSes.

Exactly mushroomars!!! That is what made sup com so amazing..and also those battles where all seems lost for you and some how by sum miracle move you turn the tides and own your opponent, and he is in disbelief lol!

Thought Id add my 2 cent to this debate,

I loved supcom FA very much and do think super units will be cool, and add that wow factor for many people.

However my suggestion is simply that there stats get turned down a bit so there not the game ender's of FA.

Some sort of sniper tank or gunship maybe, but has only as little more shielding than t2 so they can be taken down buy 2 or 3 t2 fairly quickly.

In a game with all units being the same, surely as long as something is easily countered.

I love playing Pa, been glued to my screen since I started the alpha, so I know it's already a lot of fun to play.

Id also be very happy if they came as an expantion pack at a later date. Im much more exited about orbital right know as that's new ;)

    This again?

Voted "against" Experimentals for the many many reasons I (and others) have posted over the past, several months.

Re: Poll. Will you admire the game without experimental unit

since the game is in alpha and nothing is set in stone
this obviously is just speculation ... but feel free to read what i like to say and tell what you think about it ...

do we NEED experimentals (as in SupCom FA) ? ... i don´t actualy think so
does the aspect of experimentals even fit into the lore of this game ? ... nope ...
the robots already have the best stuff there is ... the "title" experimental actualy gives the impression of the unit while being incredibely powerful/useful being also rather unusual and thus not very long in use compared to units and weapons that already are ...

    but what are experimentals actualy?
with few exceptions basicly "just" expensive superweapons that should give an relative advantage and be rather difficult to stop once built and deployed ...
asteroid KEW´s could be considered experimtals actualy aswell
why? cause with this game they are a new very expensive and powerful unit that hasn´t been used before so they are rather unusual ...
that doesn´t mean it´s classified "experimental" lorewise ...
lore may actualy suggest those weapons were used over centuries already
same for metalplanets which lorewise are considered artifacts which again means they also were already there ...

aside from this of course comes the obvious issue of "experimantals" not being OP ...
how much experimentals can this game bear without colapsing into a rather mindless techrace if devs and/or modders want to go the way of powerful? ... ... ...

what makes a experimental unit so much different from a rather "unusual" unit that it would be more preferable anyway? the lesser unusual unit could be actualy far more useful when used the right way in combination with your army then the experimental unit which actualy would be nothing more then just superweapon-platform-one-unit-army with the difference of it being very expensive and timeconsuming to built ...
and again such units are actualy planned to be already in there (asteroids, unitcannons and metalplanets) the problem with them is assuming you always use them the same way there is the danger of them getting boring after a while ...

in my opinion we don´t need more "powerful" units ... we need more intresting units
what is a "intresting" unit? (by my personal interpretation of course)
as said before ... unusual (not being rediciulous) ... new ... allowing ways to experiment with already existing units/structures without overshadowing them and not being a neccesarily expensive/spam=win unit ... as less microintensive as nessesary (at least to this games philosophy) ... shouldn´t become boring to use over time ...

simple example imo with SupComFA -units:
powerful yet rather simpel experimental - galactik collosus - ythota
rather unusual, intresting and useful unit - salemclass destroyer - wagner amphibios tank

    yeah that´s the spirit :D

Re: Poll. Will you admire the game without experimental unit

Exp’s were really cool. As long as they were so expensive you hardly ever got the chance to use them in smaller 1v1 games. (fa). Even in larger games they were not the game ender that evey one goes on about. If u controlled the air 10 t3 gunships would sort them out. Or even a tml if they stood still.

Supcom2 messed them up and made them too cheap and easy to get so you just threw them at each other as standard..

As the scale of this game is so different however i dont really see a place for them :(

I would like to see t3 however. And i stick to this!!

Re: Poll. Will you admire the game without experimental unit

Yes I could go with that, maybe T3 fabs that can make 2-3 specialised ground units and maybe 1-2 air.

Not the superunits of FA but still effective expensive units.

Mass and nrg cost could price them out of smaller planets, only for those big planets with hour long games going on. (by big I mean bigger than we have know).

Re: Poll. Will you admire the game without experimental unit

Now, even though i think exp's may have been a good thing in games like SupCom, i don't think they are needed in PA. I would like to see t3 units instead, because i think it is better to have a mass army of smaller units instead of one humongous badass unit(it would also look weird if you play on a small or medium world)

Re: Poll. Will you admire the game without experimental unit

So if T1 is "general use" and T2 is "specialised", what is T3 exactly?

No wait, let me guess; Overpowered, undercosted siege bots that vastly outmatch T1 or T2 units.

    ...

Yea, no. T2 is already a direct power upgrade over T1 and we've not seen even a hint of "specialisation" yet. Until Uber get that right and T2 isn't just more power for more money there's no way in hell we need a theoretical "T3".

    Let me explain

Now i said i would like to see something in the direction of t3, but i didn't mean like some op units, because as i said i dont think exp's are a good idea(with the info currently known to me) but if you are going to have lets say 20 planets you may need some real big amounts of power, then it would be useful to have a t3 generator. You could also make buildings like the unit cannon have a more advanced version.

And why does a Gas Giant He-3 fusion orbital reactor need to be in T3, rather than its current plan of T2?

What's the point of T3 if we haven't even got T2 yet?

If you do desire T3, then what is its projected role?
