This was quite a surprise, with that title I expected to come in to a positive thread about the editor. But hey it was a fun read anyway. Thanks for the lols! :D

The lock up is probably the ram being full and the OS swapping on disk like crazy.

If you give it enough time (could be 2 days :), it will succeed..

It's Alpha. What were you expecting if not for it to be hideously slow, buggy, and incomplete?

Most people think alpha means 2 weeks before beta (which to them is also one big demo)

Only people seriously interested in helping proper development should really enter in alphas, it can wreck expectations for most people, like see a present get wrapped. Its why devs keep alphas locked down with NDAs mostly, and most of beta too.

But this is kickstarted so different MO.

I'm pretty sure this a main system memory issue.

I encountered similar lock up's & couldn't get the mega scale planets to render without crashing. But then today I remember that I had my page file for windows 7 set at 4GB (due to low OS install space on c drive) when my system memory is actually 8GB. I played with the page file settings to move the page file from my main install c:\ drive to another drive with plenty of space and set it to "system preferred" - which promptly set itself to 8GB.

& now I can render 100 large size planets at 50-80fps which pretty good (I have a GTX 660 ti & i5 32 nm overclocked to 4.7 GHz - though GPU is probably the blocking factor I haven't tried setting the CPU clock speed down to see what FPS are like)

I still get "black planets" sometimes, this seems to be a wait for it and eventually it renders properly. Lava planets seem to really kills things fps wise.
