    I don't care about the colour what I'd like to see is an atmosphere shader that has correct rayleigh/mie scattering and extinction, exponential falloff and all that. A good atmosphere shader looks real good. And a bad one literally looks like vomit.

    The human eye doesn't detect very much of the spectrum.

    A mantis shrimp picks up a lot, a lot more.
    If we are talking advanced robots, it would be even more that.

    If you're going to bring realism and lore into this game.
    The sky can be whatever color we want.

    Is that good enough for you guys?

    It's more that the mantis shrimp interprets the existing spectrum (plus UV) in a different way, plus it can "see" circular polarisation.

    Some birds of prey can see UV and use it to track the UV-active urine trails of mice.

    As interesting as science is, I say screw realism, lets get color coded atmospheres to make it easier to identify a planet's biomes... just as long as they don't interfere with the visibility of the surface you are playing on.

    Unless Uber is planning to realistically model planetary atmospherics such as density, composition and time of day then you can have a different colour for each atmosphere as seems appropriate.

    This is one case where Art is going to trump realism.
    However, it is always prudent to know what the realism of the situation is, before breaking it.

    Or at least, that's what I'll keep telling everyone. :p

    In games and moves you dont need to do everything realistic. Many times this things feels unrealistic, becouse they are realistic o_O

    Just use colorful glow, becouse it feels good and looks more epic.

    that's actually a valid point in the realism discussion in general. Some things have to have the expected appearance/behavior to look and feel "real" and that's not necessarily the realistic scientific interpretation.

    But in this case, I for one would say it's more an issue of symbolic rather than scientific. Indicating the major biome on the given planet by shifting the glow color towards that end would have a nice informative character and would not be far off for people to accept as plausible.
