People really want a save feature

    you can put your machine to sleep, you don't even need to keep the machine on, and it will preserve the game

    Sleep means that the machine is a lower power usage state were it still drawing power. Now hibernate which Windows cannot do a desktop shuts down the entire machine and saves everything to hard disk. It reload the state from the hard disk once rebooted. So the machine is still on.:)

    windows can hibernate, actually... In any case, both are better alternatives than shutting the machine down and then complaining about how the game doesn't have a save feature when it's your fault that you can't sleep or hibernate your machine.

    Can you not accept that other people have different needs to yourself and would like a save feature rather than telling everyone that the way they use their computers is wrong?

    Its takes like a minute at most, who cares? You just woke up, turn on the computer, get some tea or coffee or what have you, come back and woohoo.

    Windows desktop can hibernate actually, and in fact when you press the power button on Windows 8 it hibernate (which is why windows 8 has faux super fast start up times)

    1: If you have an SSD and have it fairly optimized (which is super easy and you should if you've made the investment), boot times are nearly as fast a resuming a sleep state and are as fast as resuming a hibernation state. The difference is 5-10 seconds. Matter of fact, having hibernation enabled with an SSD is a waste in most cases and it consumes 4-6 GB whether or not you actually use it. Hence, you should really disable it.

    2: Hibernation with a normal SATA doesn't increase boot times much; only allows you to re-enter the state at which you logged off at (opens all applications, windows, and processes that were running at time of hibernation). This does speed up in-system application launches vs. a fresh boot, but depending on your drive it can be major or minor. So sleep is the only true advantageous mechanism here but then you miss out on 3.

    3: Shutting down your computer and turning it off completely is the most logical thing to do because it clears out cache, RAM, as well as preserves life on your hard drive as your OS & third-party processes are not consistently read/writing while you're leaving it on. Since the computer is completely off, it draws no power vs. sleep state which consumes power at a very low state. This low power state is different between laptop vs. desktop and computer configuration. Lets not forget that one of the key points in boot times (registry) also gets refreshed after a computer restart.

    Totally agree. PA is a great single player gaming experience and it needs a save feature sooner rather than later.

    No way is PA a multiplayer game, if it was I wouldn't be playing it. There seems to be a vocal minority on these forums who just want Uber to concentrate on the multiplayer experience. It's now time to concentrate on the single player game and a good start to that would be a save game feature. Then perhaps they could concentrate on galactic war and some different skirmish game modes.

    I believe there are far more people playing single player than multiplayer, you just don't hear from them as much as you do from those playing multiplayer.

    no, because they are using their computers wrong. easier for them to do it right than to waste time on a save feature

    the difference in machine lifespan between shutting down and sleeping is negligible - the last time I had a disk fail or critical failure was more than 20 years ago.

    multiplayer doesn't matter at all compared to galactic war, and save is a useless gimmick because pause and resume later is already in place.

    Apart from the fact that I find hibernate/sleep to be wasteful and useless: What about people who play on online servers and want to save there? The server won't wait for you.

    And what about me? I'd like to use chronocam replay-saves to construct build orders by constantly reloading the game from "a minute ago" to fix mistakes.

    1. that's the whole reason why making a save feature is difficult and time consuming in the first place
    2. I've already stated this - most people are never going to use the starcraft 2-like replay features.
