That's nice but http://steamcharts.com/search/?q=planetary and http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/planetary-annihilation don't forget http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/09/17/planetary-annihilation-review. Fear not; UBER can start another sale...how about a -99, that should bring the numbers up...for a week or so.

In fairness to @ufarax if he *keeps* predicting doomsday for PA, eventually he'll be right :p I mean he may have to wait quite a long time, judging by the history of TA and SupCom (people still playing TA online to this day :p) but I have to admire his perseverance :)

The multi player lobby might look empty, but if you set all the filters to 'any' (including status) you'll be able to see the current live in progress games... when I looked earlier i got a couple of screens full :)

check out what I linked, PA is ranked 33 there in terms of players on steam and has ~650k owners of which 580k have played the game.

But the average player count and peak players are really low. Compare it to a game like this one:

http://steamcharts.com/app/304730 (I play it myself that is why I choose it)

It only has 1/10 of the owners and 1/10 of the players and it still has the same amount of average players in February (in January it was half). It has a worse rating on steam and similar update frequency, it also doesn't have a tutorial and is hard to get into when you are new to the game. Ok it is a different genre and people who like it will invest a lot of time in this kind of game and stick to it.

PA also has a player base that is very loyal but this base is not really growing. I hardly see new players entering clans or the ladder (I could be wrong with that). How is the data from PAStats? Are there new players entering? Because I think someone getting this mod is someone that is likely to stay for multiplayer and maybe for the long term.

I think this problem comes from Galactic War. Most of the owners play single player. And I think they will just play some games of Galactic War and then drop the game because GW is just boring. Or they will complete it and then test the multiplayer which will end in a stomp because single player doesn't prepare you for what you will face there.

So basically there are some solutions:

    - Make Galactic War better so players stay longer
    - Make a tutorial so players get better faster (success is a good motivator!)
    - Give the players more tools to ask for help (like a global chat) where they can enter the community, which is just awesome and very friendly to new players (in my experience)

The only thing I would add to that list is a good, polished Player Profile feature. With stats of player progress and player history, combining public rankings, linking WORKING replays, etc.

I've not been playing much lately, probably once a week ish, every time I log onto our teamspeak promethean has a couple of new members :) people are joining imo. Also look at the tourney today, maxed out no spaces left!

I know a lot of the older promethean players haven't been playing much, though I think that is time of year, like myself many of our members have families and other life commitments. They all usually turn up during the holidays though.
