I kind of thought they would end up being chunky burst damage and slow, to differentiate them from ants. I figured they would be the sponge and the initial breakthrough unit, do something like fire two really strong shots followed by fifteen second reload. That way against ants they die after their first shot, but they plow turrets and buildings hit and run or sustained with ant support. I'd rather see them larger, be really slow like they are, and shoot two "leveling" shots followed by vulnerable long reload where an ant could kill two or three defenseless levelers during reload. The piss poor field unit with a gift for turtle cracking and base entry doorkicking.
Well, I still expect (hope never dies!) that they will remove all current tier 2 units (besides the ships, those are fine conceptually), mainly the t2 fighter, bomber, tank and bot and replace them with interesting units instead of only being better in all respect then the t1. Also, I'd like them to look more differently, making them smaller makes them even harder to differentiate.
Are you sure you was able to run it any time in before? Your video card drivers doesn't support Windows 8, so anything might happen. Can you do that: Download this file: https://freetype-gl.googlecode.com/svn-history/r199/trunk/windows/glew/bin/glewinfo.exe Run it, it's should create "glewinfo.txt" Upload glewinfo.txt here on forum.
Thanks for help, just solved my problem by re-installing the 13.4 ATI beta drivers for my Radeon HD4850 and all is runnig fine now.
Had this exact conversation in the teamspeak last night. The current units have done us well keeping the game interesting, playable and with some progression throughout the Alpha, but they don't really fit with the "General Purpose" / "Specialised" differentiation Uber have said they are aiming for in the final game.
Can't wait to check out the path finding now... my guys are constantly getting stuck and doing stupid dances!
Two reasons why Levelers shouldn't get smaller 1. There harder to spot. Before the change people were already saying that they are hard to spot 2. Its an indirect buff. If you can fit your Levelers into a smaller death ball then they will be even harder kill and will steamroll even more. The only down side is being attacked by the Holkens/Lobber. But that shouldn't be the only way to counter them.
people asked for a rescale of units and now Uber makes the first one and suddenly all complain about it xD Guys units are not meant to be easy to spot, you are supposed to use icons for that.
To clarify, I wasn't complaining about resizing - I'm aware that's something Uber are playing about with. I was just making the point that it will make it more difficult to distinguish Ants from Levelers. The strat icons for the two are also fairly hard to distinguish at a glance.
I am happy to see them experimenting. But I would also like to see them thinking about how it will effect balance. At the moment the general consensus is Levelers are a bit too good. This change buffs them. It also makes them even more like the Ant 2.0. I don't like this change.
Well, I was exactly against those calls for a different scale for those reason. You know, different people on this board with different opinions. And once again, if we're supposed to only use the icons... why even make art for the units? Can save a lot of money and design headaches by making it only icon wars.
I am all for icon wars, but I think they don't sell. Also I understand some people want 3D graphics and I can somehow understand why. But seriously I think a rescale is much needed and it is good that Uber starts with it. Sure some people will complain, but somebody will always complain. I know of a lot people who basically refuse to play because they dislike the scale a LOT. Like they would want everything to be sized down 70%.
A few things on this latest patch: On ubuntu 13, standard video drivers, with ati Radeon HD 6870, graphic settings highest: Mouse pointer is now garbled/invisible ! Sun is still a bunch of blueish triangles Pressing <BACKSPACE> inside any textbox will still delete two characters Steam 'play' button is still dead: have to start through terminal directly using Code: ~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/Planetary\ Annihilation/PA Just some load game benchmark notes: A custom game on a single planet type 'moon' with water level=0, against one bot: size 200: 4 seconds size 800: 18 seconds size 1400: 68 seconds size 2000: 150 seconds
I wouldn't mind if (nearly) EVERY unit/factory was scaled down, but these T2 tanks look silly compared to T1, and the factories. "Things shouldn't be easy to tell apart", as you are implying, is a stupid statement and I'm glad you don't design games O.O
About the leveller resize: They look cute ^.^ They make the planet and warfare scale seem bigger I would like ants to be shrunk also, to make them easier to distinguish between.
Hello, i have problems with fullscreen mode. itruns very laggy and slow in it. It is normal at the beta status or it already fixed. In the window mode i have better performance. thanks in advanced prophi
I can confirm it still doesn't launch from Steam on Linux, as stated by SXX you have to use the same version as the one Steam uses, it's for Ubuntu 12.04 compatibility (the only one Steam supports directly).
