Overtime does not need a tweaking, it needs to go.

This is not a pointless "this is broken" thread. I am hoping to get some serious opinions on a very serious issue within the game. Overtime is a concept which was made to settle a tie between two teams. This game however doesn't award a lead. It has been said hundreds of times that Juice rushing the ball is not a fair concept and this is hopefully going to be fixed in the next patch, however, that is not the point of this thread. This thread is to discuss the concept of overtime as the Uber team believes it to be.

To start, lets explain the rules of Monday Night Combat. Two teams escort their team's bots to the other teams money ball, when the bots reach the money ball the shields fall and damage can be done. The defending team must construct turrets to stop the waves of bots from the other team and use defensive tactics to kill Pros as they try to break your defenses.

It's a fun concept isn't it? I'm sure many of us looked towards this game to be a fun and excited tactical game. Many of us still do. As much as I love this game I have to point out the most broken aspect of it, Overtime. Overtime happens at the end of a match when no team has destroyed the other side's Moneyball. This concept would be all fine and dandy if they two team's Moneyball had an equal amount of health but the bad part comes out when one team can be dominating the other only to have Overtime start and equalize the two sides. It doesn't take much to take down a Moneyball when you don't have to put in the effort to take down the shields. Because of this the losing team has a chance to pull through and win the game before the timer ends even though they don't truly deserve it. In an close game, Overtime can be a crutch for the losing team and this is where the issue lies.

Many of us do not want to play this way. Many of us want to win when we are ahead. I think the only solution to this is to give us another playlist that doesn't have the burden of overtime.

Overtime truly is a broken concept. I can't stand strategically damaging the money ball the entire game, only to have the other team run in and Juice our own money ball. I have played games where we had all but won, and then Overtime kicks in and we lose.

Overtime is truly only needed if the money balls have equal health at the end. If one team has done more damage, why are they being punished with Overtime? They should automatically win at the end of the 15 minute period.

The point of the game is to DESTROY the money ball not just damage it a bit. There is no analog in normal sports because you dont destroy the opposing teams endzone or home base.

While i do think overtime is a bit lame with juice rushing and was very against it when i started playing(against juice rushing) I have actually seen less and less games go into overtime as people learn the game and develop better strategies.

To say a team doesnt deserve a win just cause they won in overtime is a little crazy i think. If you think of the end of the game like i do and see that if both money balls are still up(not destroyed) then its a tie. Just because one is more damaged then the other doesn't really factor in i don't think. So if you look at it that way then really it comes down to who can make the final push. From playing alot i have seen that if you dominate most of the game you should dominate in overtime.

Not trying to disagree with you completly but i really think this game is fun with overtime and like i said its becoming more of a rariety these days so i say just man up, buy some juice and take their ball down!

Let me start by saying that I agree with Overtime needing to be adjusted/removed. That being said the problem has more to do with bypassing the turrets and allowing the Pros to directly damage the moneyball than anything else. The reason I say this is because certain classes deal significantly more damage to the moneyball than others. Add in juice and this advantage becomes downright unfair, even during regulation time.

There are a few ways to fix OT or just remove it entirely. Personally I feel that adding a 60 second cooldown to purchasing juice would go a long way in solving some of these issues. I also feel that, as stated previously, juice damage needs to be tweaked. Hopefully this issue will be fixed in the first update. There is also the problem of having the moneyball drop once OT begins; this simply encourages camping until OT. On some maps you don't even need to camp inside the opposing team's base to damage the moneyball!

Anyway, I find it funny that there is a Protip stating how when both moneyballs have equal damage the winner will be decided by the team that has earned the most money. If that is true then why bother with OT? To me OT seems like a crutch for a flaw in the gameplay. What's worse is that if OT ends before one moneyball is destroyed then the team with the most damage taken has their moneyball explode anyway. Why not save 2 minutes and do this at the end of regulation? The only reason for OT to exist is to break a tie (moneyball damage within 0-5%).

Hopefully Uber can fix this issue because OT really does detract from an otherwise fun game.

EDIT: Let me again remind everyone that a game of Crossfire can end without either Moneyball being destroyed by the other team. This concept alone invalidates any claims that one team must destroy the other team's moneyball in order to win. By definition this means that the point of MNC is to deal more damage to the opposing team's moneyball than they do to yours. Destroying the moneyball is not required whatsoever.

We're not removing Overtime, it's an essential part of the game. That being said, we are tweaking things like fixing some issues in the upcoming Title Update, balance edits as well as removing bonus damage to the Moneyball during Overtime. Juice rushes won't be as affective after the TU. Going forward with new updates, we'll be adjusting the game based on feedback to make for a better overall experience.

I understand that you are tweaking it and for that I thank you guys. Though I doubt it will fix this issue. And i also understand that it you won't be getting rid of it, its your game and you can do what you want with it and of course I will still be playing it.

The concept alone is broken and it will provide a crutch to a bad team who can't take down the ball on their own. If you can somehow change this than the whole issue can be resolved.

The thing is if your team is so superior why is the other team able to kill 100% of your moneyball in less time than it takes your team to kill the final 10% of theirs?

Don't get me wrong, this has happened to me and it's incredibly annoying. But I usually chalk it up to most of my team being awful and not realizing they need to make a strong push and finish off the opponent's money ball.

A good team can push the entire game and still lose to a bad team who juices once the moneyball is down in OT.

Otherwise, I'd agree with you completely.

    OT effectively creates two games.

It seems that the board's solution is that everyone should just play the overtime juice game. I think that's ridiculous as it makes the first fifteen minutes completely moot unless you get the moneyball destroyed. And since all they have to do is keep you from pushing, rather than pushing themselves, it's really easy.

If regulation play was about putting the most damage on the Moneyball then it would be turtle heaven. Damage the moneyball first then turtle up for the win.

Overtime was added to have a climatic end. "Juice rushing" is OT is easy to deal with and if your team had already but damage into the moneyball then you have a headstart on winning the game.

It's a lot easier to juice rush than to successfully damage then turtle.

It's clear there is a problem when 3.3 hacked turrets won't fire on one particular spot around the money ball. I won't say where unless your name is colored in a private message. All one needs to do is buy juice and you can shoot the ball for free. On a map like LaseRazor the close proximity of the juice machine makes this spot even worse.

The biggest problem with MNC is that it doesn't take a good team to prevent bots from coming in their base. I've played against terrible teams that had no chance of winning yet kept us off their ball for 15 minutes. If you play so that your goal is to wait for overtime, then the game becomes stupid as it is reduced to a juice rushing contest. Combine that with the turret blind spot and the game can be easily ruined.

I like the idea of overtime, but I think giving everyone bacon is a bad idea. I think it would be much better to turn everyone's current endorsements into gold and stop there.

Having the shield drop for overtime makes sense (the game shouldn't go on forever), but I think there are some other alternatives. For one I think it would be better if the game stopped spawning black jacks and instead spawned the bots that pros can spawn automatically.

Yes it makes no sense. Football doesn't have 50 point touchdowns in overtime.

    No problem, easy fix.

Make each hit against the money ball count towards a total-point-score. Hence, the moneyball can't be destroyed, you simply score points. This way, if one team did well, they'll have a large lead in overtime.

Or, just don't have overtime. Soccer style, draws.

I don't think MNC reps should be hasty in saying "overtime is essential." It sounds as if you knew your game was busted and needed the "essential overtime" to make up for the gameplay hole.

To be fair, if it were invented now, it probably would.

Or every week, the losing team would have to vote player off. Immunity would be granted to the player who did the best at some degrading or ridiculous stunt.

This is the sport of the future, and many of the comments uttered by Mickey Cantor are riddled with social commentary. It's not hard to see where they're going, because sensation is a big deal. If this is the sport of a future society in which fans can beat on other fans in designated areas and people live in curfew enforced designated domiciles, it makes sense that they would add such a sensational element. It's two minutes of the most action.

That doesn't mean I agree with it, but it does make sense.

Yeah, but football (at least pro) has sudden death. First team to score a point wins. And it doesn't matter if you win by 2 or by 6 (the extra point for the touch down is moot) a win is a win.

Yes we're being hasty if you consider 2 years of development hasty. I'm also pretty sure if we called "Overtime" "Final Round" it would sound like a more essential part of the game because it is. The reason it's there is because we wanted to have a frantic finish to an end of a match. Check out what we tweaked in the Title Update as well as some of the gameplay changes in the first DLC (the list is getting big!) when they're out. The game will evolve over time but being hasty would be cutting an essential part of the game after six weeks. I know it's impossible for you guys to see how our changes will affect the game and the only thing you have to base your opinions on is whats out right now which has bugs and issues.
