Further to Coca's comment, I'd imagine the Steam group is possibly much smaller than the early backers via kickstarter and the uber store.

I wouldn't be so sure, Steam is quite the force, ~54 million active users?

How many of those are willing to pay 90$ for a heavily unfinished product and how many out of those haven't already purchased alpha through ks/preorders?
I'd assume that most people who are hyper enough about PA to pay 90$ for alpha are also hyper enough to want it asap and therefore went with ks or a preorder.

You are probably right I just don't want PA to be seen in a bad light, steam forums can heat up rather quickly. I am betting there will be a small backlash about the price heh.

Good thoughts, all. The Alpha has been available in the Uber store this whole time - anybody who wanted in could have come in at any time, I feel. I'm not predicting a huge surge of new accounts!
