This is not 4CHAN /b. Do not treat it as such. You can have fun, have joke threads, have serious discussions, whatever. But if you choose to have serious discussions, and start to make highly inappropriate comments, same rules apply here as elsewhere. If you have joke threads, and decide that is free reign to make bigoted, racist, etc comments, you are also mistaken. Any flaming or trolling will be handled the same as it is elsewhere.

No consequences jack-assery is not tolerated any more in the unrelated discussion forum as it is elsewhere. By respectful, if you're incapable of being nice, or don't post.

Very glad to see all the BS on the forums is actually being taken seriously by mods.

(At the very least by Garat and Poly)

    Good on ya! :)

Having read some other game forums lately made me realize how strict these Uber boards are.

I know, but unfortunately, if we don't make pretty strict rules, it goes pretty wild west pretty fast. We also are not nearly as ban happy as quite a few forums I've been on in the past, though some here might feel otherwise, but they only have themselves to blame for that. Clear cut and no nonsense rules helps minimize confusion.

To be clear, there haven't been a huge number of problems, but enough that it warranted a comment.

Mostly comes down to : don't be a jerk, don't cause drama, don't react to drama, and we're good.

I come from another forum where HALF of this wouldn't have been allowed. Uber isn't strict by a LONG shot.

I came from some pretty strict forums as well, one of which I had the dubious joy of moderating. But in the end, I found the discussions to be a lot more interesting and the forumgoers a lot more respectful and mature, so I definitely think it's worth it. Uber's rules are nice and simple, and are common sense, so I don't see how they would be all that challenging to follow.
(Admittedly, I haven't followed them as well as I should, on occasion, but there's always something for us to strive to . . .)

I think how strict a board is a combination of who's hosting it, the audience, and how moderation is done. In our case, a combination of awesome volunteer mods, and a fairly active dev team, myself included, plus the fact that people seem to forget these are our official forums, means we expect a certain level of good behavior on here. :) There are lots of places for more wild west behavior, and that's a good thing for those who want it.

depends on what you mean by right. i hate the SPUF forums. it's like 1 good thread for every 20 spam one-liner threads with no point.

I like it when there's almost no moderation. Let the mods intervene in extreme cases, like posting contact information of another user without consent or child porn or something like that. The rest should just be free. In the end, it's just messing around anyway.

"Just messing around" is the justification a lot of people use for incredibly vile behavior. It doesn't make it less vile.

And if that's what you like, it's possible our forums aren't the place for you. These are company owned forums and an extension of our products. And frankly, we like to interact with the community, but that means we expect the rules to be followed. The re-written rules we posted last year were done partially to be funny in legalese format, but if you really read them, they all boil back to "don't be a ****". This is not a challenging request to follow.

I understand that and I don't expect these forums to be like the other boards I frequent. I just said what kind of moderation I prefer. I know this forum has different rules and for a good reason. The 'no moderation unless absolutely necessary' approach only really works for a community run site.

Totally agree. :) I like hanging out on some of those sites too, but I agree with a prior comment that the signal to noise ratio on those tend to be way out of whack. Moderation helps keep discussion focused on relevant, or at least fun, topcis. :)

I think people are just trying to be funny... and it makes them look like complete jackasses. I'm really disappointed with the Boston Marathon jokes people pulled off. Perma ban could of been a good thing at that time imo.

If you have to ask where the line is, you're better off not posting.

This site is for a studio who produces games rated T for TEEN. Try keeping it at a suitable content level for a "Teen" rated game.
