If I'm playing poker, it's possible to hide an ace in my sleeve and use it to win. It's not permitted in the rules, however, and is considered cheating.

Most video games don't work that way though. They don't ship with a rulebook included that tells you what you can and can't do. Therefore, my definition of rules in video games applies.

JKII had a very clear list of abilities and in writing at that.

Even in SMNC things like standing in bot spawners to avoid damage or clipping your turrets through walls aren't permitted in tournament play. In fighting games (the pinnacle of good game design :roll: ), easy characters are banned all the time and they aren't even exploits. Same with TF2 weapons that aren't even imbalanced.

True. How is that relevant to strafejumping/bunnyhopping? Because that's pretty much universally allowed.

It's not permitted in the rules.

It's not disallowed. Therefore, it's permitted. That's how it works.

Inclusive: If it doesn't say you can't, you can.
vs.
Exclusive: If it doesn't say you can, you can't.

One allows more freedom while the other ensures that the game (or other system) actually proceeds and functions as intended.

What about in games like FF and others where it says you can and is encouraged?
