If you guys need it, have a PM war, seeing threads that are just you two duking it out is obnoxious As a suggestion, something that is alternative to icons is a nice idea. The visualization for Ruze is interesting. SC2 did something similar in that when you zoomed out (minus the big overlay, that was admittedly annoying), it would auto group units and give you a button and a # of units in that button, that you could use to click and select them. That part of it was neat.
A poll for what? They are not mutually exclusive. I certainly would not want NLIPS to replace icons since it's a terrible effect. But Homeworld 2 for example does have both if you want them.
Mhm, I dislike NLIPS, and, as nanolathe (I think?) taught me; including everything as an option isn't convenient. So while I'd normally say 'include it as an option', I'll now say 'no'... ... But it could be patched in I suppose, if many want it.
I was thinking it would be a good option for those who like to play zoomed out but still want to see the game. Myself I just zoom in but some people like it play like that it seems.
Admittedly, I'm not a TA/SupCom player like all of you, but I feel the RUSE approach shouldn't be dismissed so fast. It conveys the same info as a blob of icons, (imo) it's less of an eyesore to look at, and it can handle horizons far better than icons can.
I just want to see the units at their actual scales at all times. But thats entirely a personal preference.
Personally not a fan of OP's suggestion, sorry OP. That being said, I don't really have a constructive solution. I have no problem with icons as long as they are relatively small and unobtrusive.
Blob of icons, while definitely not eye-candy are fare more effective to convey unit composition, this is especially true when considering a larger number of units and unit types. They are easily read if similar to the simplistic SupCom icons. However, I must agree with you with the "horizon" units and buildings. Seeing how units/builds were handled in strategic zoom using icons in the Stream update only compounds my concern for how confusing fighting on a sphere will become.
If I'm going to be honest, unit scaling was the only thing that stopped me from buying RUSE, it looked so out of place in such a large scale mature game.
Yotsuba is actually always willing to learn and enjoys everything. She's pretty much the opposite of bmb.
The image of her face that bmb has chosen doesn't clue me in to that fact. I don't watch anime except for some of the really standout series/movies.
