your right there is some good current music but if you compare rap from today to 15 years ago current rap = rnb and yodalling electronics

nirvana is considered classic rock. Pearl jam is a prime example of being a grundge band now a rock band. etc

I can think of several metal bands that kick the asses of a lot of "classics", so there.

You're kidding right? You do know Rap/Hip-Hop evolved from Jazz, Blues and RnB.

Also grunge is a form of "Rock n Roll" which is also deeply rooted in Blues and Jazz. Now these terms that I threw out are all modern genres. Modern as in this century. Music has been around since the dawn of ages so if you claim to be a Music Snob at least know what you are talking about.

Listening to music and knowing the dates stuff was released is totally different then knowing it's history and cultural developments.

I was thinking more of Protest the Hero, Son of Aurelius, Obscura, Animals as Leaders, Ihsahn, The Contortionist and The Faceless but you can say A7X. That's fine with me because unlike a lot of people I don't hate them.
