Most recent update, very dark? Also, a request: Brightness slider?

Yeah, gamma settings are incredibly useful, not sure why there aren't any in the game yet.
Another tip; if you can't tell where craters or other terrain features are, there's an option to bind the pathing view to a key. Temporarily enabling pathing view will show you exactly what's where, where you can build, what your units can path through, etc.

I've got pathing view on bound to F10 and pathing view off bound to F11, for instance.

all those things clash directly with aesthetics I want to have a real night, somewhere you gotta slice to decide. I think mechanisms can be put in place; such as a modifier key that overlays lines that delimit unconstructible terrain.

Nights should be even darker than now. The problem with sliders is abuse.

Should be a tactical aspect to nights. having units without lights that can stalk in the night for ambush attacks.

Well- what matter more? Game play or Aesthetics? I don't think it needs to be where you can't differentiate say from night but I'd still like to be able to see and use things affectively...

I'm sorry to say but I'm pretty sure Uber (As well as a lot of the community) would be against that because I have seen people many times want to keep as much luck out of the game as possible. (The person on the night side having a disadvantage In the beginning against both seeing attacks as well as creating their own. )

I'm not sure, my moon planet was horribly dark and it had the behavior you explained, the background was pitch black and the moon was almost indistinguishable (in fact when the planet became invisible it took me a little bit to notice it.)

if there wasn't that duality i wouldn't have said you have to cut somewhere in between, and I insist that because the icons are unaffected by this (they are even made more legible), this is the one case where aesthetics get to shine a bit more.

like I said a UI and well interfaced buildable terrain delimiter would terminate your issue. You can already do this with f11, though it isn't an interfaced, night-side of the planet only thing, rather a developer tool.

Make sure you guys have the brightness and gamma on your computer screens set correctly. For me, the brightness/darkness levels are fine. If your LCD screen has it's brightness turned down, then obviously things will be darker.

My monitor is at 100%, it may just be a darker monitor because it's older (Or it could be the graphics card, I remember back in Alpha there was a horrible lighting bug; All people with Intel HD 4000 could barely see at all.) I still hope for a gamma slider so I don't need to fiddle with my graphics card settings to turn them all the way up on lighting just for a game and then back to normal when not playing.

    Pretty sure it's dark enough...
    And proof!

As you can see this is hardly visible in the borderline- almost icon view but not yet there!
    Darkness.PNG
A bit of a closeup, only thing creating light is this nanolathe; even that is hardly enough to see. The commander isn't very visible, even this far zoomed in.
    Darkness2.PNG
Proof of the planet being able to look like a crescent moon.
    Darkness3.PNG
The view from icon view, as you can see- Barely visible; no features of the planet can be seen, only the icons. Darkness4.PNG
Another look at an even smaller crescent. You can barely distinguish between the pitch black background and the moons dark side. Darkness5.PNG

PS: This was done without any background modifications, what happened to the blue starry background?

That looks like it would be amazing. I must learn/be taught how to mod this in.

Hah, it might look amazing but gameplay wise? The direct opposite. The pitch black can be a bit disorienting as well as cause me a bit of difficulty when I really need to find something or need to know exactly where to build something. The craters are invisible and so I can't tell where I can or where I can not build what nor why!

this in no way represents what we have.

    (though I'm jealous)
are you on intel HD graphics?

as a temporary fix, you can set the icon visibility to always

Yes I am, I'm currently using Intel HD 3000; it actually runs the game quite well the thing I have to be afraid of most is just server lag. It does take a little bit longer than some (with the possibility of no longer responding) to get to the party but once it gets there it has a blast!

Edit: This has lead me to believe Uber has done a lot of optimization work for the Intel line of cards because people with much better specs seem to have more lag at times. Though I have heard it really just differs between computers... infact, ironically, I believe it ran better than another computer I had with HD 4000 and better overall specs, odd. At one point HD 3000 could not play the game so I was forced to switch to the HD 4000 which had the very dark lighting bug back in the day. :p

ye you probably lag a lot less than I do. But this is a known and recurring bug for PA on Intel HD.

Don't ask to change a game aspect if it actually doesn't need to be and is just a bug that needs to be fixed.

please, as a beta tester it would help you out alot if you participated in the bugtracker and confirmed this bug for the current version here : http://pa.lennardf1989.com/Tracker/index.php?do=details&task_id=3381&string=intel HD dark&project=1&search_name=&search_in_details=1&search_for_all=1&type[0]=&reported[0]=&cat[0]=&opened=&closed=&changedfrom=&changedto=&openedfrom=&openedto=&closedfrom=&closedto=&order=history&sort=desc

Sorry, I was not sure it was a bug at first; I thought it was simply the new lighting and effects added with the latest patch. I'll get right on it!

Try it with HDR turned on. It makes a really big difference for me. With HDR off the game is basically unplayable on my HD4000.

It looks pretty dang realistic, albeit gameplay limiting. If this is what the devs are shooting for, then all units and buildings should have more bright light fixtures that designate where they are in the dark easily. That'd be an awesomely immersive experience.
