Just while we're on the discussion of performance, I'm wondering if it might be worth using jQuery 2.0? http://blog.jquery.com/2013/04/18/jquery-2-0-released/ It's smaller and faster because it doesn't support all that IE nonsense. Although being less "mature" it might not be such a good idea to use? I'm going test this out next chance I get.
I haven't used jQuery 2 yet, but I don't see why you shouldn't use it for PA. Is jQuery already included in the stock UI?
