MNC: Draft Edition-The Draft

So how do I get ahold of my captain? sense you know hes been banished to the underworld and such. would be nice to play with my team at least once to see how everyone plays and how Im gunna fit in.

Does it even matter if it takes another week for the draft to finish? I don't foresee a mass exodus of people that no longer want to play in just a couple weeks. I can understand the frustration and the eagerness to play, but I don't see it being a threat to the stability of the tournament itself. I actually anticipate that this will be quite popular and be a regular event here on these forums, divided up into seasons.

Please no to that. I work every weekday and can't reliably check from work. I would just like to see the captains checking more, but it's hard to fault anyone when there's this many people involved and you know nothing about their personal lives. However, when you see someone online and know it's their pick/getting close, message them. PMs probably don't matter that much, since anyone who's a captain should be checking this every time they get on the forums.

And Z Bear, I guarantee you won't go undrafted.

Sorry, I've talked to everyone else, but I don't think I've been online at the same time as you since I've picked you. I knew I was going to take you or Deadpool with my next pick, and Fojib decided it for me. Coincidentally, the first time he played with/against Deadpool might have been the other night. I was in a game against Fojib and Deadpool got in there also.

So I just finished typing the below up. Holy crap is it long. But how awesome would it be if we implemented an actual league? So awesome.

Ok. I am trying to prevent myself from getting too excited, BUT if this actually became a regular thing I propose the following (I will even do all the work because of how awesome it would be):

League Organization:

• 
  Every team gets a name and logo
  Every team chooses an arena (even distribution) and settings to be their "home arena" (for example: Steel Peel / no juice / no overtime)
  Make Two Conferences (8 teams in each)
  Make Two Divisions in each Conference (4 teams each)
  One Commissioner (agreed upon by all current captains). Comish runs league and looks for any unfair play (both in game<cheating, not playing position, incorrect stats, etc> and out of game <trades, free agency, etc>)

Team Organization

• 
  Captain
  5 "Starting" Players (are limited to playing one class per season)
  2 "Practice Squad" Players (can be subbed for any game, can play any class, must be unranked or unsigned or undrafted)

Regular Season

• 
  Each team plays every team in their division twice (one at home, one away).

Playoffs
Top team in each division = Division Winner = D
Second place team in each division = Wildcard = W

• 
  Each D in a conference plays the W from the other division in their conference. Best of 3 with D getting home arena advantage
  Winners of those games play the other winner in their conference. Best of 3. Arenas chosen randomly from other "home arenas" in that Conference.
  Final two play best of 5. Arenas chosen randomly from other "home arenas" in the league.

Offseason
Order matters on this one

• 
  1 - New captains are chosen for each team based on the player who earned the most money last season (Old captain becomes free agent)
  2 - Free Agents announce their positions
  3 - Free Agents are signed
  4 - Captains draft from available new players
  5 - Captains then sign Practice Squad players

Contracts

• 
  Contracts can not exceed 3 seasons
  Each team will have a salary cap
  Contract size determined by player rank within position
  Rookies (from the draft) and Free Agents with new, never played positions get the lowest possible contract

Stats

• 
  Statistics to be recorded for each game during the season:
  • 
    Money earned by each player
    Kill/Assist/Death total of each player
    Any significant awards
  There will be two rankings (used to determine contract amount in free agency):
  • 
    Season - Only contains last/current seasons stats.
    Lifetime - Used in case a player changes to a position they previously played.
  Any player that changes to a position in free agency they have never played

Player Rankings

• 
  Ranking is determined by a combination of
  • 
    Money earned per game
    KDr
    Awards
  Ranking is position specific

Draft

• 
  Draft order determined by previous season's record
  Players can only be drafted if they are new to the league OR if a free agent pro decides to change positions

Free Agency

• 
  Players become free agents when their contract runs out
  Captains sign free agents similar to a draft
  Player and captain agree on a contract length

The only thing that would need to be decided/balanced would be team salary cap amount and how much a contract should be worth per ranking.

Sounds fantastic, and I would participate, but I can't help but say....

The beauty of doing the league like that is that most teams would only have a couple open spots each season. So drafts/free agency would fly by or at least be faster than re-drafting everyone each season.

That's brilliant stuff, Obi. I was actually just thinking about the possibility of an MNC League today.

We could springboard into a league after this tourney using the existing teams and one "expansion" team.

We could even use the tournament results to determine divisions (make them even and stuff) and initial player rankings.

Really just spitballin at this point, however, we have yet to see if this tournament can finish.
