Ahem... seems everyone is using x86_64 systems except me. When do you plan to release x86_32 binaries? I was using 64-bit system for about a year but Xorg freezing due to NVIDIA driver (was reported several times for several distros and it definitely happens only on 64 bit, no fix and no comments from NVIDIA) became a PITA and eventually I had to move to 32-bit system. Now everything is fine as it should be but obviously I can't run 64-bit binaries. I don't see any announcements and mentions of this issue in sticky topics so I'm asking here.
Well, my first impressions are that I am very happy. Being a linux newbie, I thought I might be in for a hell of a time trying to configure it correctly, but after extraction is started up perfectly. Admittedly, I only played around with it for 10 minutes, but still, impressed with Uber's effort to get the linux version out so quickly and so playable. For reference, my system is: Linux Mint 14 (with MATE desktop) x64 i5 760 quad core Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 4 GB DDR3 RAM I also have that bug with regards to selection only via box selection, so I will add my vote as well.
Trying to run PA on Mint 15 with the latest AMD beta drivers for me results in a black screen with ??? in the title. Sound starts playing but nothing loads. dmesg -T shows: Code: [Sun Jun 16 03:08:18 2013] CoherentUI_Host[28061]: segfault at 44 ip 00007fffebe9c51f sp 00007fffffff80f0 error 4 in fglrx_dri.so[7fffeb161000+1d9a000] [Sun Jun 16 03:08:19 2013] CoherentUI_Host[28102]: segfault at 44 ip 00007fffebe9c51f sp 00007fffffff80f0 error 4 in fglrx_dri.so[7fffeb161000+1d9a000] [Sun Jun 16 03:08:20 2013] CoherentUI_Host[28122]: segfault at 44 ip 00007fffebe9c51f sp 00007fffffff80f0 error 4 in fglrx_dri.so[7fffeb161000+1d9a000] As CoherentUI_Host runs in it's own set of processes.. it's not easy to attach gdb to get more detailed error info. I'll try the latest release drivers after some sleep.
We're working on a new build right now, btw. Not sure how much it will impact Linux (other than we've turned off telemetry, which should help a bit from what I've been seeing on here), but it makes big leaps forward on Mac OS. It should run really well on 10.7 and 10.8, and it will actually detect Steam correctly! I know, shock, right? There's some other changes as well, that I'll have in the build notes, but I strongly urge people in the Mac community to get word out to other Mac users (I'll broadcast it as widely as I can) to make sure to grab this build, as it's probably the first one that will be valuable to get feedback on. We're still uncertain on 10.6. I'd love if someone on 10.6 (64-bit) could tell me if it runs at all. I have a 10.6 downstairs, but sadly, it's 32-bit (my old mac mini), so I can't try it.
garat if you do this viewtopic.php?f=73&t=48063 that should at least make the Linux version more accessible for now as well, it's not exactly a big change either.
Hello all, i just got PA working on my ubuntu laptop (13.04) solving the few issues that you have to get sorted and now im playing, but at 5-6 fps... are you guys having the same issues? btw: toshiba A665 i7 Q740 cpu Gforce 310M <-- this may be the issue but it runs other games "fine" so... (ex starcraft 2 in médium on w7 and TeamFortress through steam on this same OS) and pressing P in the game i get this: 6,7fps, 150. msec update 1.50 msec bla... present 1.48 msec bla... other 12.4 usec so i really dont see where the low fps are comming from unless is GPU or driver related... :?
Yes, my computer does not have a second graphics chip on the CPU, so i only have 1 gpu, and other steam games work just fine at 60fps (TF) so i dont think it has to do with the processing power of the gpu, it can be the driver selecting of the game or some issue in the rendering part, but when i run it on console i get no strange beheaviour from the game... Edit: Lol just when i was going to start gdb´ing the PA exe they updated the client xDD it does seem to have solved a few things but nothing to my performance problem. when i was debugging it nothing abnormal did show but i terminated the program and then it threw me this: 0x00007ffff479d3de in ?? () from /usr/lib/nvidia-310-updates/libnvidia-glcore.so.310.44 maybe the drivers fault? (it can be a bit strechted out since i stopped the game by myself)
New build is live (both through our Download link and Steam). It improves 10.7 and 10.8 in terms of playability quite a bit, though still a few big things to get fixed - Like the shift key for instance. If ANYONE gets it working on 10.6, please let me know. Unfortunately, we don't expect it will, but if there is a way to get it working, that will be fantastic. For Linux, simply the disabling of the telemetry and some graphics perf improvements in this build may help quite a bit.
Sorry to tell you but the MacOS client is still horrible and far from playable at all. See my other post, same issues still apply. Had to reset my machine twice when testing the new build. The only time where it was working was with a mindcraft like planet, which seems to be a serverside thing, as i could reconnect multiple times to the game and got the same graphics (mindcraft like). Also would be nice to get the region selection box working. Dont mind the issues, i usually can run it fine on my windows machine, so consider this just as feedback, not a complaint Good work anyways, keep it going. Btw, didnt find any logs so far, can you give me a pointer? Regards, Byte
New build feedback Testing on Linux now, one thing i've noticed - no graphics options in the settings anymore? There is also still this bug http://pa.lennardf1989.com/Tracker/inde ... &sort=desc, you have to drag to select anything, it's very very annoying. Please fix that bug asap. You cannot select anything on the side bar except stop, so if i accidentally tell my commander to build and then walk off i can't tell him to continue the unfinished building. I think also linking into the bug report is that if i have my commander selected i can't get him to assist or actually build an unfinished building as the mouse doesn't change on hover. I think the issue may be that it's still using my normal cursor not the games cursor?
Graphics options were pulled at least from Mac, because we're trying to track down something that makes clicking any of them (not applying, just cliking) crash the client. :/ We figured better to disable that for now until we figure out why it's happening.
Build 49595 runs ok on Mint 15 - same UI issues as the earlier build and perf is about 10% worse (last build was a solid 30 fps - this one is 27 unless you resize the window - when it goes down to about 4 fps until you restart the game). Graphics look a little sharper and less messages about missing graphics items in the logs with this build. Startup time from launch to the license page is faster in this build - 2-3s rather than 5-10 before. GPU settings missing when running on Linux
Good job I set mine to low already then Any chance of that bug i linked to be some sort of priority as we can't test very far with it. It's an OS X bug too not just a Linux one btw.
The same issue is on linux - you have to drag to select or zoom out until you see the icon view to select. When targetting something with a unit - like a building for repair - zoom out and you can select it as the target. A handy feature or bug (not sure which) - you can use fab units to speed up construction of other units currently being built by factories
I was already stating it was both a Linux and OS X issue bud. Having multiple fabbers help is an intended feature. It was in TA and SupCom.
Drag select working will be great, but we still have some seriously bigger fish to fry on the builds still. I don't mean to indicate it's not imporant, but it's a bit cart before horse at this stage. It is well noted though, and you should call stuff like this out, so when we get to that point, we can make sure we prioritize core gamplay usability accordingly.
Not sure if you typing wrong or read the bug wrong. You can only select by dragging, you cannot click on anything. Just to be clear. Looking forward to having that fixed that's for sure as it's a pain in the rear to test having to drag to select anything.
