I know this is a silly question - but did you restart the system after installing the drivers? Sometimes driver install can be funky. Other than that, I don't have a whole lot to go on. There may be a command line option you can use to disable some advanced features that may prevent the crash (it's hard to diagnose here...)

You! Focus on RAM! :p I'm running out of money to buy you that alcohol! (Gas is painful)

By the way, great job so far!

    Well... that was fun.

Turns out, there were a few textures in the game that were a bit large. I've dropped them a bit (for example, the nuke scorch decal was 4096x4096, and there's 2 textures, for a grand total of 32MB (compressed). I dropped to 1024x1024, no quality difference, for a grand total of 2MB (compressed) or a savings of 30MB - twice (so actually 60MB)! (backing store plus GPU memory).

I also dropped resolution on some unit textures that were too big. Total savings so far are around 300 to 400 MB GPU side, plus the same system-side; on an integrated system, that's a total of around 600 to 800MB of system memory (since the resources are mirrored).

    Almost 1GB.

    No code changes yet.

    So far, so good.

Short reports of what you guys are actually currently doing on the game are awesome. I want more of that!

My question is: Is there any memory saving that can be done with the UI and planets loading? I don't mind the slowdowns nearly as much as I mind loading up after auto start has happened

AFAIK 32bit programs are restricted to roughly 2GB even though the architecture supports about 3.4GB. Could be wrong, but i have hit this problem myself in certain situations.

Just want to share my findings about recent problems with in-game crashes or "low RAM" messages.

As I find out there is many Windows users who have non-standard settings for "page file / virtual memory", especially SSD users who usually disable it for drives on SSD and forgot to enable it on 2nd/3rd HDDs. As result Windows have no page file to unload background processes from RAM when PA memory usage increased.

As solution that confirmed as working for 10+ players you need to make sure there is page file with 12GB minimal size available. It's doesn't decrease game performance, but fix crashes that usually looks random (not related to drivers and other things).

I have played on some pretty big systems (I like to test the limits) and the most I've seen is around 12-13gb use. however at that point the sim speed is down to 1-2 fps so you can't really play the game at that level yet anyway..

Windows 8.1 seems to automatically pagefile on my HDD instead of on my SDD. It also automatically gave me 16gb it seems. Nice job windows :)
