Do you have any recommended selections from them? I've got the Foundation trilogy staring me in the eyes, sitting on my desk all day, still haven't read it.

The Foundation series I think is a great place to start. Asimov is the master that many sci writers today look upon as their inspiration.

For current sci fi authors I would suggest starting with Old Man's War by John Scalzi. It sets up a series of books and is a fantastic read imho.

I don't understand how the human marines could even stop the remaining forces. Currently even fabbers are the size of trees.

You know what I find interesting? "Escorted by a NEST." To me that suggests not only that there are multiple NEST's, but also that they may not be a bomb or EMP weapon that some people think. Maybe it's some sort of super commander or megabot or something.

What are the main philosophy's for the current conflict?

Why should I be concerned or root for the factions?

Never underestimate what humans are capable of....especially when they know their very survival is at stake.

In the months to come there will be more revealed about the NEST's and exactly what their true purpose was.

These can all be found at the following:

    Legionis Machina: http://www.uberent.com/pa/2013/09/19/lore-reveal/

    Foundation: http://www.uberent.com/pa/2013/10/14/lore-reveal-2/

    Synchronous: http://www.uberent.com/pa/2013/12/17/lore-faction-3-reveal/

    Revenants: http://www.uberent.com/pa/2014/03/07/lore-update-faction-4-reveal/

In a nutshell, each of these faction leaders are driven by a different set of ideals, and will stop at nothing to reach their goals. One thing that they all agree on however is that the Progenitors are out there....somewhere, just waiting for their chance to return.

Did you play or read lore from the other games in the Annihilation family? (Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander)? If so, how has this influenced the lore for PA?

Did the Progenitors, aka humans(?), use similar weapons and/or units as the Commanders they created? For example, many units seem to have places in which a human could fit into, tanks having the little cap at the top, gunships having little cockpits. Were these capable of human control as well or is it just aesthetic design to make units recognizable by them easily?

    Edit: Whoops, sorry igncom. :p

I have played both games, and worked/work with the people that made them. I purposely avoided crafting a story based on any of them however. PA is its own unique universe with no connection to those, except perhaps in spirit.

I think it would be safe to say that there is some residual memories left in the Commanders; memories of a time where they interacted with other machines not of their creation. What they don't remember is that the Progenitors were humans who operated many of these. Does that have some influence on the design of their machines of war? Perhaps.....

Well to delve into this further, how exactly are the "blueprints" for units created, were these blueprints pre-encoded into the commanders by the progenitors, or were they as you suggested, created by, or observed by Commanders themselves, could a commander learn how to create a units, vehicle, plane, or bot, by simply scanning something it has seen and storing it for later use by one of it's fabrication units for example, also, what is your explanation (if created by now) for the limitations given to some fabrication units lathes (the blueprints stored within them to be more specific), as in, why exactly does the basic fabricator have further capabilities than the commander, the advanced going over it, and so on?
