    LOL

Just want to remind everyone that Anerica is still one of the 'most' free countries in the world. We are still known for turning hard working legal immigrants into successful and productive members of our society - unlike the Brits, for example, who have heavily socialized medicine and a ban on guns.
I want you to look up how much foreign aid we sent Europe after the Second World War. Tell me, did we have to spend that much blood and treasure to save y'all's countries from an evil dictator (and afterwards, economic ruin for the mainland) only to have it thrown back in our face because we are now considered inferior? I don't see your flag on the moon sir.

You are right arachnis. Being born into a country doesn't obligate you to patriotism.
If we define patriotism as a willingness to die for that cause, then yes, I am a patriot. The older America, the true Republic. Not this socialist BS that is dragging countries into defaults. Is this a bad thing? No, because I am doing what the founders of our nation intended me to do: to care enough to do something about it.

That's the point where I disagree arachnis. You can make a difference in America if you work hard enough and vote regularly. It's what makes America different. Who you are isn't set in stone. You can change your fortunes and make a difference if you put your mind to it

The default setting for "who you are" that the US seems to use for the average person is "potential terrorist".

    Um. What?

    Only in airports man. Lol.

That's governments job: to protect the people, not maintain their welfare. I'm fine with that, cause I'm not a terrorist. :)

All I have ever seen related to the US was driven by fear and outright paranoia.
Don't worry they'll scan even your thoughts for anything harmful once they have the technology.

Only an American uses that as a negative remark.

In the Netherlands medicine is almost entirely socialized. This means everybody gets the care they need when they need it. We also have a very strict ban on guns. This means gun violence is for all intents and purposes non-existent.

    How terrible.

This. I can't even remember the last time (ignoring the school massages a few years back) there was an incident including firearms here in Finland while people shoot at each other on a daily(?) basis in the States.

Yeah what really annoys me about some Americans is

    1. they think socialism is a bad thing. Like health care and stuff. They probably associate it with communism, and those two things don't necessarily have something to do with one another. Besides, communism isn't a bad thing in general. The idea was a good one. But it just doesn't seem to work in practice. In history communism was always bad. But the idea was not. But again,
    socialism is NOT necessarily communism.

    2. they think guns are somehow a good thing. "Guns don't kill people, people do." Oh yeah? But guns can be very helpful in that task.

    3. some of them think that America is #1 in the world. Oh, right... maybe they're #1 in being confident.

    4. if you ask them where they're from, they'll say something like "I'm from California.", what? Yeah but where are you from? "America!" Yeah, but which part of America? North America? South America? "USA." OH, now I get it. Stop thinking people from the USA are the only Americans.

Sorry this might seem like I hate Americans. I don't. Many idols I have come from America. Many great people living there. But one very smart man (from America) once said:
"If you're born in this world, you have a ticket to the freak show. If you're born in America, you have a front row seat." Stupid people in America are just more stupid than the average stupid person in the rest of the world. Sorry, but that's not racism, that's just observation :)

    Greetings

Don't throw them all together like that. Generalizing people based on the country they are from is just as bad as crazy patriotism.

I know! I'm sorry. Maybe I should have said "some" Americans.
I hate racism and generalizations, but I'm guilty for what you pointed out.

    Edit: fixed it.

Publicly funded healthcare is not what socialism is.

There is no absolute definition of what socialism is.

For example socialism CAN mean communism. But it could also mean "social-democracy" and that's basically what we have in Germany atm.

Socialism usually means: Equality, Righteousness and Solidarity. And what's bad about that? Publicly funded health care fits all three of those terms. Maybe that's why some Americans call it socialism. But maybe it isn't socialism, I don't know... It's a complicated topic.

I've always understood socialism to be an economic system in which the workers own the means of production
