ingame armaments development - suggestion

    First, I greet the whole community, and of course all members of the Uber entertainment.
    I followed the whole campaign on kickstarter and of course I contributed with a small funding.
    What you are doing is great, but it's even more amazing that you have new young talent involved in this project, I am referring to Sorian ... my best wishes for your new adventure I wish you success. ;)

    In these days I was wondering ... which will be organized in game development of technology? will be a true revival of the old system of development of TA?

    I have always found very interesting development model of the units of an old game published by TopWare (release date 2000), which is called: Earth 2150: Escape from the blue planet.

    In this model, there are only bodies of units ... players are free to compose units as they wish or as they deem appropriate.

    As you can see in the video, you can choose a body virgin and customize it with various technologies (unlocked with traditional research facilities + time + money).

    So we can choose the medium chassis and equip it with machine guns and a shield generator, save the configuration giving it a name and start the production of a custom unit that will cost X resources.

    But if you want to change your approach, you can immediately create a new unit ... with the same body but with different weapons: gun or laser gun or anti-aircraft or anti-aircraft missiles, decide not to give it the shield generator to amortize the cost in resources, etc..

    In this way, even if a player has only one faction in the game, he can customize his play style by creating their own units ... Some players prefer to assemble weak and economic units in large numbers, other players instead invest their money in units customized with equipment very advanced but expensive.

    I am convinced that this system can easily be integrated into the game ... I participated in the creation of some mod for supremem commander FA, if your game engine has the basics or similarity with that of the old SupCom, this means that each weapon consists of an independent body (the same goes for the animations and the weapon stat ) from the shell of the base unit.

    Would not it be wonderful to use this system? would add variety to the gameplay (even using only one faction), and everything is easy to implement into your game engine with high probability.

    Don't get me wrong- I love unit design as an idea. But I highly doubt it will work in the context of PA.

    Lump this into the "pipe dream RTS" along with the MMORTS and real-time galactic warfare awesomeness that one day might get made. A huge persistent RTS galaxy with thousands of players in factions with customized units.... that would be righteously badass. However PA is not that game.

    I loved the ideas in Earth series and Warzone 2100, but I do not think that it will be working well in such a huge game like PA. In Earth 2160, I had to see that lots of my units become useless after an enemy changed the armor and it used to make the game extremely slow and boring.
