The fact that Intel GPUs can make for a somewhat passable gaming experience in some games is the result of a couple of things. First Microsoft has spent many years pushing very hard for all PCs to have better GPUs. Second the graphics in PC games really haven't gotten any more demanding in the past few years.

The second bit is partly due to the astronomical costs of actually developing better graphics and partly due to the fact that console hardware has stayed the same for many years now.

While this has been awesome for PC gamers because it has made gaming PCs incredibly cheap I worry that the impending console hardware refresh will upset the trend.
