To the OP, please don't think that SupCom2 is in any way representative of this sort of game. To my knowledge the only people who worked on SupCom2 who are working on PA are the AI guy (Sorian) and the pathfinding/flowfield guy (sorry, I forget your name). AI and pathfinding were the only things that everybody agreed were good in SupCom2.

Project lead Jon Mavor (aka Neutrino) wrote most of the engine for Total Annihilation, and was the lead programmer on SupCom1. He left GPG before SupCom2.

Check this video for how awesome Supreme Commander (the original) was:

And head over to Forged Alliance Forever for a brilliant, active community of people who are really passionate about SupComFA.

Supcom 2 would have been great if it had any other name. :(

It would have been a decent game, at least.

Supcom2 still had some game breaking issues, the most notable being horrible performance.

Agreed, supcom2 was a good game, just a very different game style from supcom1.

Supcom2 was alot more accesable to a wider range of game players, where as supcom1 required alot more attention and concentration.
Supcom2 was the "special needs" baby of supcom 1, I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Unfortunately most of the previous games have not aged well snap building is such a key feature now that i find it hard to play any rts with out it. Sup com was an amazing game but its depth was a great feature and and a killer in the learning curve. Many rts games have a bit of a rock paper scissors flavor to them in that if you go one strategy and the opponent goes another its not always the ability of the players that makes any difference. what i like about Pa is that it looks like it can have epic battle where you can actually have long games or short games or what ever you like different people like different styles of games and different times. for example artillery some people love it some hate it. I did like the ability of Sup com 2 to be able to turn on or off certain features though one issue was that there was nowhere that told you this feature is off in the game. Pa has the ability to be even more complex them sup com 1 and therefore having as huge a learning curve. Already I am finding a huge difference in learning level. Team games with people who know how to play team games are amazing with those that have never played shared economy it can be cruel and unusual punishment. Once all the features are in a new player training will have to be though about i understand that there will be no single player game but throwing newbs in against veterans will just discourage them.

I always thought of the single player campaign as a learning curve induction.

Funny, I often say the exact same thing :) SupCom2 was a horrible sequel to Supreme Commander, but a great game on its own that introduced my friends and me to a new (and unfortunately, mostly nonexistent) genre of casual strategy games.

Have you ever had a food that you really hate, then try it again later and say to yourself why did you eat it? Well I did that again, but with Supreme Commander 2. Yeeaaaaahhhhhh, it still sucks really bad. After reading some posts here, there will be little Supreme Commander 2 influence on the PA. Gosh, I hope so, if I end up buying the game and it sucks that bad, I swear I will be even more mad than I was for buying Supreme Commander 2.

The RTS that I have played in the past while leaving out at least a half dozen. Warcraft 1-3, Starcraft 1-2, All Command and conquer except the newest one, Men at war, Fallout tactics, Company of Heroes 1 and 2. Dang, while writing the list I even forgot I've played a little bit of Sup2, I wonder why it's not SC2, if the fan base here started to call it that, it would still end up as Sup2. Just like a Sup2 PA would be replaced by something like Pacific Alliance or some other dumb game that came out after PA. Of all the RTS I can remember my favorites were COH1, WC3, and SC1.

I remember when this was posted in the GPGnet forums, I was not happy because I knew exactly where it was going and I was right, SC2 was made for consoles, I got a lot of stick for my comments but if only people had listened!

RTS + Console, not a decent RTS then. I love all consoles but this was a silly idea.

And to OP, if you only started at SC2 and you claim SC1 + FA was crap, how do you even know that if you haven't played them?

    Problem off Sup2:
All assumed that it was a continuation of the SC.
Should instead have given another name as ex: Commanders off elite
So everyone forgot the SC and viewed gambling as another game.
Sure that no one would say that the game was not good.
Was in Supreeme comander 2, I found the best units i ever seen in a rts.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOhW1h4cd-Q
    Completely unrealistic.
I agree that the gameplay ,does not make us see, the potential that the game should have .
But only the units that have the overall, well worth the investment.

Totally agree with the fact SC2 should of had a different name, it was nothing like SC, which as you stated lead to serious disappointment.

In fact it nearly killed me when I played it, "oh my gran could play this with her eyes shut, oh jolly."

I can offer a response: I actually played FA for a few months before SC2 was released. I had some fun with FA, but way more with SC2 because I'm not patient enough for a punishing learning curve like FA's. More importantly, my friends are the same way - so when I showed them FA, they had no interest. When I showed them SupCom2, they bought it almost immediately.

    So there's my history.

its not sc2 because starcraft broodwar came first, and got the abbreviation SC, therefor starcraft 2 is SC2, and supreme commander is, well, supcom.

Oww, sorry, you have only one request and we won't be able to help but deny you it...

Anyway, tell your friends to read just one page on the games foundation. It isn't our fault that they wrongly prejudge this game based on a stereotype game. If it helps, tell them that supreme commander was a sequel to total annihilation, and this game is taking the game before it was supreme commander and taking it in a different direction.

Also, if you want this game without the nanolathe commander theme, this game is fully moddable, so total conversation mod please and thank you.

Hah, I've never played supcom2, but watching that video, the giant fire breathing dinosaur looks so cool (except for the wonky walking animation). Just in general I think I prefer the designs in supcom2 over supcom, with some reservations.

I hope there will be flamethrower units in PA.
