Not being stupid. No one besides Uber knows the answer to that question yet, other than the bits of information we've provided. The server is fundamentally an easy thing to run, but the difficulty is optimizing, connecting, linking to a larger ecosystem, and a host of other issues to make it as powerful as possible.

Once we're close to releasing the server bits, expect to see a lot more information coming out about it.

I tested FX 8350 CPU before I decide go with Intel one and unfortunately it's just not something I want because I one of guys who agree to pay $$$ for performance.

Anyway only point of my post was to warn OP that "AMD cores" isn't any better than Intel HT because I seen a lot of people who was fooled with this marketing. There is a lot of differences in architecture, but I still can't count those AMD marketing "modules/cores" as good thing.

As far as you don't care about power consumption. Everything you save on buying high-end AMD CPU will be spent on electricity.
For me as someone who run PC 24/7 this is extremely important part of hardware spec.

This kind a obviously why: APU and ability to get hardware specifications for cheap or for free.

Intel don't do graphics for real and I doubt they agree to lower price just for consoles and Nvidia isn't gonna sell their drivers source code to anyone and I most likely only provide any documentation for very big $$$.

I put together a brand new PC to play SupCom. As luck would have it, I think it's just about time to retire it and put one together to play PA...

Regarding an 8 core server, the best way for most ordinary people to set one up would be to buy an older workstation with both CPU sockets populated. (I see a few Dell Precision T5400 workstations with a pair of quad-core processors & 16 GB of RAM on eBay for as little as $350.) The clock speed and efficiency won't be quite as high as with a current processor but you should have 80-90% of the performance for 25% of the price.
